I?m no help to your questions.  But I am a firm believer in that to win conference Championships you have to have a good qb and oline

no doubt it starts there but after decades of observation, you must have difference makers in every position group on both sides of the ball.  so whether it be athleticism, speed, IQ or some combination, balance in more ways than just personnel, wins championships.

this team was for the most part balanced top to bottom, side to side, with the major exception being 35 total yards rushing against Coastal.

then there's the debate concerning which QB to go with IF any two or more are evaluated as being too close to call in fall camp and early in the season.  hindsight is 20/20 (go back and compare notes one more time, Herd fans)

This is something that we need to keep an eye on.  Is it a known fact Braxton is going to USM with Huff?  I have not seen where most of our portal guys are signed.  I am assuming most are going to Southern Miss.

We might have one .... J. Long .... I thought I heard he was doing very well in practices.  Why would Earle give up a potential easy starting gig by going into portal and Braxton left.  Is Long that good.

Huff actually had a very good philosophy going into this season.

Convince a lot of guys that if you come here, you will get an opportunity to play more. You, in turn, will have more opportunities that will come open later that will benefit you financially. Fitzpatrick may have bettered himself here for the NFL. Chapman got a better opportunity here and will likely get a Power 4 NIL deal. Watson has already benefited financially, I guarantee that. I could go on and on.....Moten, Braxton, etc.

While people will stick with this "loyalty card", by having successful portal players here, we could have then messaged current portal players and said "we can better you here". And yes, still recruit some quality high school guys that like it here.

We need to take that approach with QB as we did this season. Despite what people want to say, Huff had a pretty good formula for success that he showed this past season.

On QB it was mentioned that the former Albany QB was in the portal from Miami.  He would be a great one year QB if we just need to bridge a year.

Two additional requirements.
The "gamer" has to practice well enough to be recognized as the obvious starter/ potential star.
The OC has to be good in order to exploit the QB's strengths.

I mentioned this in another thread. Braxton is our primary QB goal, we have made him an NIL offer that would be one of the largest we have ever made. Don't know the specifics, but it is substantial.

I was told last night at BB game that Braxton may stay, that a big nil offer was made. I was also told that not everyone else in the portal will be made an offer to stay.

AND I HOPE HC Gibson realizes that Huff brought in P4 transfers from SEC etc.  Coach do not underestimate MU ability to recruit by name.  But Huff was a portal machine as well.  He knew it.

One of Huffs mistakes was that he underestimated and therfore didn't recruit the level of talent we needed to win the conference.

TG should aim for the stars.  Recruit above his head.  We are in rebuilding mode thanks to Huff and his loyal to Huff staff and players.

The portal may make it easier for TG, but it may also make it more difficult.

I expect TG to have the ability to develop a defense.  He should prove he has the ability to recruit and develop an offense.

Monroe Beard is from Tennessee st.  What?s your point?  Easy to cherry pick.  We also got a good rb transfer via NC st-UNLV(ranked most of the year)
