  • I was told the other day that TE-M's son was a stud QB at Ironton. I looked it up and sure enough, he is. Looks like he's got several offers including that school up north, UK and App State. We're not even listed. Anyone know what's up with that?

Hopefully Gibson makes a run at him, and while he's at it, do everything in his power to lock down the entire Tri-State area

  • Ironton had some players this year. They are back to what they were in the 80s.

We?ve never had much success getting kids from there. Their top kid this year is going to Missouri. 4 star WR that had 300 AP yards in the state championship game.  It?s Ohio State turf, not a lot of Marshall stuff in Ironton.

That would be on Huff. The new coach has been in place for a week. Maybe Gibson will reach out. Late in the process now. jmo

  • I was told last year that Marshall wasn?t seen around Huntington High, which is ridiculous considering there are quality players there and at Midland and Spring Valley, etc.

    Gibson should ?fix? that

Honestly, it's not that surprising.  Very few teenage boy-men want to start in their home town if they have the opportunity to go somewhere else for college.  I suspect that this is as true in Columbus as it is in Huntington (Heck I'm pretty sure Herbstreets kid went to Michigan).

That doesn't mean you don't make an effort. How many guys have come back after leaving?

Yeah Shaun Terry can put on a show when he has the ball in his hands. Watched him play a few times this year.

Edwards is a 2027 Kid with very little film. Did not play much Q for Ironton this year. very good athlete, would not be shocked if he does not transition to another position in college due to size.

Quality players for our area, not a ton of quality for our conference. Have you seen a Braylon Braxton or AJ Turner locally in recent years? The only kids who have went big time and stayed are defense or lineman. 90% of kids from the tri state end up in the portal a couple times when they realize they can't play big time D1 football. Plus chances are like stated in this thread. Marshall or a P5 school, kids take P5 every time. It's the "dream"

  • I know for a fact Doc was never at Spring Valley. That's why their kids usually went to WVU. We got Porter because he was just a Marshall guy and wanted to stay home badly.

You pursue all the local kids, just good PR for the program.

Lots of ?blue chip?, really?   Good, yes I would agree. A couple of blue chips over the past several years, yes.

I tend to like OL from our area. I?ll take country boys over FL boys in a fight, but finding 10 that are good enough that we can also get committed is a tall task.

There?s been a bunch over the past 5-10 years who were rated 3, 4 and one 5 star, I?m not gonna look them all up

Were not gonna land them all but FFS try and land local dudes

  • We never tried to get a program changer ..... I must ..... TYSON BAGENT (excellent Hs film).  Watch it one day he was really good.  Our coaches need to watch more tape instead of listening / watching the rankings.  Tape can be misleading though so have to watch both sides of the ball.  Pruett was one of the best at tape.

Bagent was probably the biggest in state miss in a long time, but probably went overlooked also due to being in Martinsburg.

Maybe maybe not lol.  6?3 and about 190 lbs. He outplayed Long. He is a very good safety. Robert?s was a qb then db. Speaking of qbs/athletes, maybe Fagan from Martinsburg.

  • There's ZERO excuse for us or wvu to overlook kids from m'burg. They've won the big boy class championship, what, 7 outta the last 11 years or something like that?

They aren't some class A Catholic outfit that plays a weak schedule.

To not at least look at who they've got is just shotty recruiting.

FYI: A Marshall Grad Bob Lutz was the coach at Ironton High for 42 years when he retired in 2012. His teams at Ironton qualified for the postseason playoffs 28 times and his playoff record was 43-26. Lutz coached Ironton to state championships in 1979 (Class AA) and 1989 (Division III). He had six teams finish as state runners-up (1973, 1982, 1988, 1992, 1993, 1999) and 10 teams were state semifinalists.

Even having a coach with a Marshall connection never helped us get many Ironton players. Ironton is big OSU territory as you posted.
