  • Is he gonna be another Doc as far as communication goes? Dry personality? No communication with fans? No social media presence? I'm starting to feel that he is. His Twitter has been all but silent pretty much since he was hired.  I think those skills are important in today's college football landscape. It's not like the old days. Recruits tend to love the guys that are active on social media and are seen jumping around with their players after wins, etc.

I will never forget when all FBS coaches were interviewed and asked their favorite song and Doc Holliday's answer was "I don't like music". I knew then that we had the most boring coach in history. Even dry personalities like Saban had a favorite song.

Another thing... what is it with us hiring 52 year olds? Pruett... Hired at 52. Doc... Hired at 52. now Gibson... Hired at 52.

  • He has more personality in his pinky than Doc did in his whole body.

    Give it a little time.

I agree with you. Twitter is part of recruiting in today's world. Kids create to it and love a coach that is active on it. One reason Huff is a great recruiter is his social online communications.

  • I think he'll be more interactive.  Between hiring a staff, recruiting current and new players, and all the other stuff that comes with a new job, his plate is probably pretty full.

  • HC just needs to win and win in a hurry.  We were finally on the cusp to dominance again now I feel like we are starting from the bottom again.

He's a WV boy. What do you expect? This is who the people wanted bc he "wants" to be here. Herd fans would rather go 6-6 with someone who wants to be here than 10-3 with someone who doesn't

To some degree, that is correct.  The idea that being from Boone County is somehow a qualification for the job is insane yet here we are with everyone bragging about him being from Boone County.  I don't care if he's from Samoa - I just want him to win games.  Having said that, mediocre results combined with a lack of PR savvy will eventually run out the clock.  See Doc Holiday.

This!!!!  Most coaches have someone posting stuff for them all the time. Getting quotes and things to say. At this point he may not have that staff member yet.  Once that happens it will pick up.  If we all relied on the HC to post all the time at most schools nothing would ever come from their accounts.  I am sure some post themselves but most have a person that keeps it active.

Who are "these people" who wanted Gibson here? It sure wasn't anyone on this board. It wasn't the fans.
I never saw a single post about him before he was already announced as being hired. I never heard a single fan say they wish Gibson would come to MU and become head coach. The only people who wanted him here were the few that hired him.

He's here now. The only thing we can do is give him a chance. I'm going to do just that.

Agree. The "he wants to be here" rant has gotten kinda old. I get it...it's being said as a slight to Huff and his "one foot out the door" and as a promise, I guess, that Gibson won't leave for another coaching job if he's successful here.

I really, really hope Gibson does a fantastic job and we can continue with the recent success we've experienced. I like to believe we all want that. However, at the same time, I understand some people's apprehension about a potential Doc-like scenario where complacency eventually sets in and the administration is content with sub-par results.

  • If it was Eddie George he would have made TV & national headlines.  Moved the needle.

We shall see if Gibson is the next wv boy to be a successful head coach.
He needs to win bc we were progressing.

My old friend from Boone County, Herdfan_07, wanted Gibson when Huff was hired. He's the happiest fan in Herdville right now. 😂
