  • Interesting fact from Shane Mettlen a sports reporter :
JMU finishes 9-4, making the Dukes 28-9 in their first three FBS seasons. Here's how some of JMU's peers did in their first three years:
    Marshall 35-4
    App State 28-10
    Georgia Southern 23-14
    ODU 21-16
    Coastal Carolina 13-23
I don't like to lose, and that isn't so much because it is just a football game, but because defeat means the failure to reach your objective. I don't want a football player who doesn't take defeat to heart, who laughs it off with the thought, 'Oh, well, there's another Saturday.' The trouble in American life today, in business as well as in sports, is that too many people are afraid of competition. The result is that in some circles people have come to sneer at success if it costs hard work and training and sacrifice.- Knute Rockne

  • That's still awesome to see that incredible record, but my guess is if current rules with portal and NIL were in place then we never would have had that great a record. Still good, just not that good.

  • We only had 11 games per season back then, too, with CCG and Bowl to total 13.  Everyone else on the list had the opportunity to play 12 season games, but we cost them the ability to get a CCG and a bowl the first 2 years of FBS, lol.
