Second consecutive year Real Salt Lake has drafted a Herd player in the first round (Matthew Bell last year).

  • Congrats to him and good luck.

If we can keep who we have on roster now, pair that with Grassie's signings so far, we have a great shot to be back in Cary next year. Jmho

Lots of turnover on the roster, but I would have said that for this year as well.  Chris is as good as they come at cobbling together a solid team.  I think he needs another mid and another dynamic striker.  Defense and goalie seem set in stone with Amoro coming back from injury - assuming all others come back as well.

He is excellent at portal recruiting as well.  He is special!

Looks like Bell is getting the league minimum of $71K, but that minimum is rising every year to $98K in 2027.

Fujita 87th overall to NYC; Vukovic #89 to Real Salt Lake

  • Vukovic is a senior with no more eligibility (I think?), but I would be surprised if Fujita does not return for another year of experience.  Its one thing to be drafted in the first round (Bell) and take off for the MLS, its quite another to be a late 3rd rounder.

  • It seems like size is a major consideration for draft position, in light of those Vermont players going early. And I would?ve thought Okiyoshi would be a higher prospect than Vukovic.

I have read elsewhere that the average MLS player annual salary is around $500,000 now. Surely that is somewhat skewed by top earners like Messi, but still, these guys have a great opportunity for a very lucrative career eventually, way more than say our football players who go to the CFL or arena league or something.

Thats why I think the U.S. college soccer to MLS pipeline will continue to be a major draw for international academy products who werent quite good enough for the leagues in their home countries.
