There's not a lot to say really as the new regime is just about business unlike the last one that just wanted to tweet every 5 minutes for attention.
I can say that Gibson and his staff are burning it at both ends going through the portal and big money donors are stepping up enough to entice big time recruits to visit.
I don't know what to make of the Spears situation. I've heard some chatter though I am not sure how to digest it as it's unsavory. I do know that he was indeed fired. I personally haven't heard any names yet of possible replacements.
Back to recruiting. I haven't been on the boards in about a week since I've been busy at work trying to close the year out early for the holidays and not sure if you all have discussed it, but there are three really big time players we're currently working on. One on offense and two on defense. Landing any one of them would immediately elevate their side of the ball and any combination could lead to Gibson storming out of the gates. I can't say their names now because these are the types of recruits that the staff would like kept on the low. Maybe we get them and maybe we don't, but the fact that Gibson could even get them on campus for a visit says a lot. Especially in this day and age if NIL.
Also something interesting about Gibson's portal targeting. He seems to be putting an emphasis on players that we have recruited in the past and not landed, players that were here and left, and players with ties to the area. We've already seen the return of two players that transferred out in 2022 and 2023. We've also added one WVU transfer and wouldn't be shocked to get a couple more.
A player to keep an eye on is Jacksonville State's QB. Zion Turner. He just hit the portal. He was at UCONN prior to JaxSt. I believe he was UCONN's QB when we faced them in the MB Bowl.
