Rod McDowell looks to be a really good hire as RB coach particularly for recruiting.  Gibson appears to be pulling a good staff together with several that seem to be respected recruiters.  Brewer who was already reported was handling HS recruiting for Virginia Tech.  Apparently good connections with High School programs in the Midatlantic/Virginia.

I don't like to lose, and that isn't so much because it is just a football game, but because defeat means the failure to reach your objective. I don't want a football player who doesn't take defeat to heart, who laughs it off with the thought, 'Oh, well, there's another Saturday.' The trouble in American life today, in business as well as in sports, is that too many people are afraid of competition. The result is that in some circles people have come to sneer at success if it costs hard work and training and sacrifice.- Knute Rockne

  • Just a couple of additional Coaching hires:

Jake Ellsworth, LB coach under Gibson at NC State:

    Dayron Wilson

Basing these on picking them up from recruiting and social media and I have not seen them confjrmed in a report yet.

  • Am I wrong, or did I hear coach Gibson give the impression that he was putting together a staff that would be Marshall themed?

He said that where he could get Marshall and WV people, that can get us where we need to go, he would.  We gave him an opportunity he would like to give others, but not at the expense of a quality program.  Same goes for recruits.

  • I think Gibson's comment was made in a similar vein as the question on recruiting players in WV when he said as long as they elevated the program. If there is a coach who fits with his vision that has former Marshall ties then that would be a bonus, but he is going to hire the team that can execute the vision.  Prefer that to an unnecessary limitation on getting the best folks.
