  • Were my eyes deceiving me?

What was the first half penalty on the Herd on the 4th and 4 UAB punt that gave UAB a first down? It looked like the official signaled a motion penalty on the Herd defense.

Yeah, someone should call-in to Woody and ask him about that. Being out of town and without video, I have no clue what that was about, but it sounded like, neither did Steve or Cy.

  • I thought he called a balk, I didn't know you could do that in football.

  • He signaled false start, but said something like "an unnatural football move."

    What the heck is that?!

  • Unnatural football move was the call. Here's the rule.

    Rule 7-1 Article 5

    a. After the ball is ready for play and before the ball is snapped:

4.[Defensive] Player(s) aligned in a stationary position within one yard of the line
of scrimmage may not make quick or abrupt actions that are not part
of normal defensive player movement in an obvious attempt to
cause an offensive player(s) to foul (false start). An official shall
sound his whistle immediately [S7 and S21].

I think in Alabama they are real picky when it comes to interpreting "unnatural" acts.

"If you count victories in terms of perseverance, commitment, and determination our team went undefeated in ’71."

Rather that they err on the side of caution on that particular point, PB, wouldn't you? *wink*
