  • Driving around campus, I saw that the apartment structures on the north side of 5th Ave. east of 20th St. being torn down.  The red brick buildings, the west one is gone today, and the east one will probably be next.

Now, the north side of 5th Ave. from 20th St going east is clear (after the second half of the apartment building is raised) and there will only be one small building standing til the demolition reaches the Faith Methodist Church (which MU, I believe, owns), which is next to the new Mc Donalds.

Also, the first floor of the new north dorm looks completely framed.  Work is being done by leaps and bounds on these two dorms.

The Marshall Community & Technical College (a separate entity from MU) bought that property, and its supposed to be used for a new MCTC building to consolidate all of the locations MCTC currently has.  MU has offered $$ for the Faith property, but no agreement has been signed as of yet.  Probably will, though.

  • I thought the church membership had already voted to sell to Marshall.  The campus area is really going to be different in 2-3 years.

Yeah, I thought the same thing.

I'd like to see that used car lot on the corners of 5th and 20th gone before the season starts, along with that two-headed billboard at the same spot.  Really an eyesore.

The good news, however, is it looks like it'll be gone sooner than later.

  • Any chance those spots can be paved or graveled for use this football season?  You'd think they could make some easy money off those spots.

  • I would like to know what they are goin to do with that big gravel lot beside Logan Packing on 2nd Ave. It was a scrap metal dump for the last couple years and then someone cleared it all off. Would be a great place to tailgate once again if they allow it.
