Petersen had been a GA before he was promoted to QB coach. Anarumo had coached LBs at Harvard for 2 years, Hopson had been at LSU and Florida and had 1 year coaching LBs at Delta State, Shaine Miles was a GA at MU and high school coach, Kelly had coached at Bowdoin college 1 year and Tulane 2 years, etc. Dwayne Nunez was a coach's son that only had experience in high school and was a GA here when Gunter left

Pruett did have guys like Gailbraith, Tim Nunez, McHale, etc with more experience, but that's what Snyder has with Kueck, Dunlap, Cummings.

  • I'm giving Pruett as having Tim Nunez as an experienced coach, but he had only been a full-time coach for like 6 years before we hired him, 4 of them at Southwest Texas State where we plucked him from. Gailbraith had about 14 years experience coaching college, but had been out of the college game for about 6 years when Pruett gave him another shot.

  • our 1997 coaching staff:

    Gunter Brewer
    ETSU 1992-1994
    Northest Comm College 1995

    Tim Billings
    Oklahoma 1985-1986
    Missouri 1987-1989
    Marshall 1991-1996

    Mark Gale
    Oklahoma 1984-1990
    Marshall 1991-1996

    Tony Petersen
    Marshall 91-96

    Kevin Kelly
    Dartmouth 1988
    Northeastern 1989-90
    Tulane 1992-94

    Ernie Purnsley
    Catawba 1992-95
    Holy Cross 1995

    Jay Hopson
    Delta State 1993

    David Johnson
    Shippensburg 1986
    Indiana - Penn 1987-96

Some good coaches out of that group (Hop, DJ, Kelly, Gunter) that had very little experience. They paid off for Bob.

  • The answer so far is no.  He is not capable of being a head coach.

My prediction is that Snyder, Keuck, and Dunlap will return next year.  While Morris has been much improved, all expectations are that Garner is this terrific QB and therefore has QB skills far greater than Morris.  With the TE's and better WR's, I think Snyder sticks with his main coaching staff for one more year.

If next year is just like this year then Snyder and all will be gone.  I don't think Kopp can wait any longer.

Kopp could make a move at the end of this season.  So far, he has not provided a public vote of confidence to Snyder.

What will be interesting is to see if the assitant coaches try to jump ship at the end of the season. If so, that tells me that Snyder will be gone at the end of 2008 if he doesn't win.  Assistant coaches have to look out for themselves. They know when the ship is ready to sink and they will want to find new jobs before they are all fired.

Time will tell.  Maybe the season will be salvaged and things end on an upswing.  I hope so.

  • I like the way Snyder recruits and yes, he has some talent in his first two classes. The problem is, so does every other CUSA team, and to top that, most schools in the league are upping the ante as far as facilities are concerned. So not only do we have to overcome the losing but other schools are getting better and have better facilities.

Its time for the coaches to start back with the basics, fundementals and coach these kids up. Use the rest of this season as a way to instruct, young kids get experience and get better for next year.

  • A Pruett or a Donnon could take young coaching talent and develop it.
