  • I'm not trying to start a fight.  But what QB has the most losses in MU history?  And what is the record for number of losses for a QB in NCAA history.  I tried to find it but couldn't.  Just looking for statistical informaition, thats all.

  • You can't find it because QBs don't lose games, TEAMS do!

  • Don't know for sure, but would think it would almost have to be Reggie Oliver, having started for three years during a time when I don't think we won more than 3 games in a season.

2, 4, and 2 wins in three seasons. I think. But I think Reggie may have missed a few game because of injury.,

  • If anyone can match the QB to the season, you could figure it out with this table:

  • My guess is that it would have been during the "stop the streak" years.

You sure can find what QB has the most wins.  Pitchers don't lose games either..........teams do..............but they sure keep track.

I think we all can agree we aren't going to win more than maybe 1 or 2 games.  meaning Bernie would end up betweem 7-23 to 9-22.  I can't imagine we have a QB with more than 23 losses.  And I can't imagine the NCAA record is much more than that...............I mean that is a QB averaging 11 losses over 2 years or 8 over 3.........and most wouldn't be playing with that kind of record.

  • I was gonna make a smart a$$ comment about the record of defensive lines but I don't figure that will accomplish much.

To single out a position or player and attach a record of failure to them is unfair. Forty of fifty guys play forty or fifty guys lose. A hundred or so practice and we couldn't get along without them. Beyond that, the financial support we give the team in comparison to the competition makes us responsible for wins....and losses too.

  • The Herd went 8-23 during Reggie Oliver's three years.  I don't ever recall Oliver missing a game because of an injury.  However, he may not have started every game -- even though the movie said so.  Dave Walsh played some significant minutes during 71 & 72 years and may have even started a game or two.  So, if you are counting STARTING qb's one or two of those losses may not "belong" to Reggie.

Bud Nelson is the only other three year starter I can recall from the '70's.  But I think they won more games.  I'll check my media guide later.

As for Bernie, he has not started all the games the past three years, so in football accounting he shouldn't be tagged with all of them.

We played @ Georgia, Ohio State, Tennessee and Kansas State, all in the top 10 while he was here.  Plus, while CUSA is better than the MAC now...........4 or 5 years ago the MAC was significantly better than CUSA is now.  Marshall's last 2 years in the MAC 4 MAC teams were ranked in the top 25............Miami (OH), Toledo, Northern Illinois and Bowling Green, with 3 at one time.  In the 3 years we have been in CUSA not a single CUSA team has been ranked in the top 25.
CUSA isn't very good football..............and we are at the bottom of it.

  • Bud Nelson started for three seasons from '75-'77 -- his freshman through junior years according to the media guide.  The Herd's record was 9-24, giving the Herd one more loss than Reggie Oliver's years of '71-'73.

Now, I remembered Bud Nelson starting three years, but I was surprised to see in the media guide that it was his freshman through junior years.

It also shows his years as '75-'78.  Did Bud get hurt early in '78, or did he leave the team, or just get beat out by Danny Wright?  Does anybody remember?  Is anybody old enough to remember?

  • Stan played 3 BCS teams at OSU, UGA and UT.

Morris has played against 8 BCS teams.

    2005
    Kansas St, Virginia Tech

    2006
    wvu, Kansas St, Tennesse

    2007
    Miami, wvu, Cincy

And any way you slice it CUSA schedule is tougher than the MAC.  There may have been two qualtiy teams in the MAC when we played, but after that it sucked.

The strength of the MAC was centered in Huntington.

As someone said QBs do not lose all by themselves. I knew Prarie View was bad I just didn't know how bad. But one of their QBs might be the worst.
