An extra day of preparation likely will serve Marshall University coaches and players well this week.

Southern Miss' offensive schemes aren't exactly exotic, but personnel is a question mark. Specifically, who will line up under center Sunday night at Joan C. Edwards Stadium?

Two-year starter Jeremy Young has missed two games with an ankle sprain, and backup Martevious Young was sidelined two weeks ago with the same injury. Enter Stephen Reaves, who rebounded from a four-interception debut against Rice with a steady outing last week against SMU.

Southern Miss head coach Jeff Bower could delay defining a starter until late this week, equaling extra film room time in the Shewey Building. Marshall (0-6, 0-2 Conference USA) hosts Southern Miss (3-3, 2-1) at 8 p.m. Sunday. ESPN will televise the game.

Last week in his first career start, Reaves threw for a touchdown and added a running score in a 28-7 victory over the Mustangs. Reaves completed 18 of 26 passes for 206 yards.
