HUNTINGTON -- As Marshall University women's basketball makes the transition from preseason to regular season today in the opening game of the Preseason WNIT, the team will see several similarities to itself when facing the Evansville Purple Aces at Roberts Stadium.

Much like the Thundering Herd, Evansville likes to get up and down the court and force the opposition to keep up. The strategy worked last season as the Purple Aces finished 19-12 and averaged 72 points per game.

"We've got a Herculean task on Friday," Marshall women's basketball coach Royce Chadwick said. "Evansville is sitting there saying 'So you want to run with us? So do we. Let's go.' They'll be ready for us and we'll have to go up and play exceptionally well."

The constant through two exhibition wins for Marshall was defense with the team forcing 25 turnovers against Kentucky State and then backing that up by forcing 33 against West Virginia Wesleyan.

Defense turned into instant offense in both contests as the speedy Marshall guards were able to beat the opposition back down the court for easy baskets.
