HUNTINGTON — Marshall University head football coach Mark Snyder announced Sunday that offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Larry Kueck and defensive line coach Thielen Smith have been released from the coaching staff.

Any changes to current staff responsibilities will be announced at a later time, a Marshall news release said.

  • Not sure about Smith, but he was canned at Clemson.  Certainly, our guys didn't have many moves to be o-lineman.  Kueck needed to be let go after the 2004 season when together he misused Charles and Bradshaw.  Snyder's job isn't done yet.  Cb coach doesn't get it and either does the o-line coach.

  • Secondary coach needs to start packing!  He needs to back to OSU to finish his GA program.

From what I heard they like nichols as a recruiter, but the guy doesnt appear to be able to teach our dbs how to turn and look for the ball, tackle etc...

  • Another good example of why the negative, pessimistic stuff serves no good purpose... as if anyone wants to come and coach under a guy who you've rumored is out in 2 years (...!!!).

  • - Peterson likes a "smash mouth" running attack with the pass that keeps the D honest.
    - Parrish likes to platoon backs and pass for a ton.  He's led Ball State to a bunch of points against very good BCS teams.

    Advantage:
Parrish has put together good offenses at every level.  Ball State despite being better than us right now is still just a good IAA program in overall talent, but capable of scoring points and being in games despite a below average defense.

  • Nothing wrong with Nichols becoming a recruiting coordinator if he was willing.  Then he can focus on what is already his biggest strength.

he'd still have to coach a position on the field.

He shouldn't coach the secondary.  The cb's are not developing.  Snyder needs to take over a unit on defense.

It is what it is, these men are professionals and know what is on the line when they take a job.  Coaching is and will always be a unstable profession.  Plus I bet a coach is on here reading these boards worrying about what joe schmo says about a job.

He could take over the band announcing position.  I dunno... he has major value to us obviously as recruiting is about the only thing we can hang our hats on recently and he is a MAJOR part of that, but at the same time our corners have been TERRIBLE.  Face gaurding is not effective.

i agree he's terrible, but the ncaa limits the coaches you can have and you cannot have a coach that is solely responsible for recruiting, he has to coach a position.

Maybe we can find a genius GA to work underneath him... I dont think he is the only problem and the contributions to recruiting outweigh his weakness.

The entire D made some good strides at the end of the year including the corners.  Maybe things are starting to click with his guys now.. I dunno

  • Nichols can be the QB coach. He was a record setting QB when he played.

He would probably be a much better fit at that position that TRYING to teach our dbs.

  • If Snyder likes Nichols so much then he can reassign him somewhere and find someone who can effectively address the problems in the secondary.

You either completely miss the point, or you avoid it on purpose...  ie, IF the goal is to see the football program improve, then, news flash... you may or may not be hurting, but YOU CERTAINLY AREN'T HELPING.

It's not about the coaches-to-be... it's about what are you doing to make things better instead of to gain some sense of self-congratulation for your grandiose football wisdom.

I'm hereby annointing you people the Noseless Snyder Snobs... wallowing in your joy that your faces have been duly "spite-ed."

  • Now we just need to fix our secondary in a big way.

Hopefully, we spend the money needed to bring in an OC who has got things done before.

We need an OC who will design a new offensive scheme that is tailored towards the strengths of the talent we already have. We will be using a drop back passer next year, we have an excellent TE and we shall be loaded at RB, so there ya go.
