  • I hope you all realize that this will be the first year that we will have 85 players on the roster. And that we are finally getting depth from the probation that we were under. We are brining in talent yes and I am happy. However do some realize and conceed that the CUSA did have better talent then the MAC and that we where behind them in that aspect.

C-USA does have better talent, but you're forgetting HOW we lost all of those games over the past three years. We didn't lose them because we didn't have the talent.... we lost because of poor coaching. I won't even go into listing the bad decisions, mental mistakes, and lack of preparation... all of that has been well documented on this board before.

Good Gravey... the WHOLE LEFT SIDE of our kickoff team was OFFSIDES!!!! Even the announcers were laughing!!!!  ::)

  • There is no difference between top MAC teams (MU 01,02, Miami 03, BG 04) and top CUSA teams now.  I would argue those MAC champ teams could beat current CUSA champ teams. Look at how many MAC champs were ranked. There are no Buffalos or Kents to pad the record, but the 07 Herd team would be hard pressed to beat any Pruett coached team. I'm not bashing Snyder; he wasn't dealt the best of hands. Basically, I'm tired of both the Snyder apologists and bashers. We need to come to an agreement that 2008 is the gold standard for Snyder. Bowl game he stays, no bowl he goes. Both sides of the fence would complain about this though. One side would say “it’s not fair with the ooc schedule he has to play". The other would say "nine wins or else". In my feeble mind, Snyder will win my "total" (not just financial) support with a bowl game in 08. If not, god help us, Memphis made a bowl game this year........

  • I don't believe all the CUSA hype. Am I glad we're in CUSA. Sure. But if CUSA football is a step above the MAC, we tripped on it.

  • The pressure is on Snyder to produce some results this year. I heard a rumor that an offer was made to buy out Snyder last year ala Jirsa by a group of alumni, but MU rejected the offer. If Snyder does not produce this year, do you think Kopp might consider the offer?

  • CUSA is not a tougher conference than the MAC. Both conferences go up and down in talent and in the last two years ... CUSA was better. When we were in the MAC ... we beat their teams easily and so did other MAC schools.

  • My feeling is that Kopp will honor the original contract of five years; we'll see. Snyder has mentioned a five-year plan with the fourth year bearing fruit. Every year we lose some games we should of or could of won; going into year four, Snyder needs to find a way to win those games, if he is to have success.

Concerning the MAC, I agree with Tandt - there are no Buffalos or Kents - the bottom dwelllers are better in CUSA than the MAC. There are no automatic wins for us in this conference.

  • I find it hilarious when someone compares the MAc to CUSA. Did we ever play away in a MAc game in front 45,000 ECU, 35,000 S Miss, 58,000 UTEP, play a top 2 opponet at home? Did we have a chance to get KState or WVu or Cinnci at home? Did we get a chance at 5 bowls one in Hawaii?

Yes, I know some folks wanted to stay in the MAc drive to an empty stadium, have their honda valet parked and drive home every weekend, but the move has been a excellent move for Marshall...with the exception of CSTV  ;D

  • In a given year, the top half of the MAC football might be able to compete with the top half of C-USA, but the bottom half of C-USA will typically be far superior to the bottom half of the MAC.

  • That well publicized late season meeting with Dr. Kopp ...
I'd bet the farm that MS was told he needs to start winning or
his job could not be saved. And well he should have been, judging
from his demeanor. It was as if losing was acceptable for the
early portion of the "Grand Plan".

The loss to New Hampshire and 0-7 start woke everyone up to
the fact that job was not getting done - at all. Of course, people
that know football knew that 3 years ago. If he can keep these
big time recruits coming ... hire some Coordinators / position coaches
capable of teaching fundamentals & making adjustments ... if MS
can just make the on-field decisions that a good HS can make ...

Combine all these and we will be fine ... BCS ? Doubtful. But we can
    start winning again.

We need to remove the veritable cancer to program in the Athletic Office ..
send a message to CUSA that MU is about proficiency in athletics.

In any case I think you will see a sense of urgency that we started to
see late in the season from MS and will fully see in 2008.

  • good replies guys. Yes the New Hampshire game sucked loosing. The main reason I dong think anything will happen this years is due to loosing both cordinators. Now maybe the OC will come in here with a system that the QB can pick up on and light it up, who knows. But I do know that the talent we are bringing in alone will win us a game or two. We all some some improvement during the year and we all saw some places that needed fixed. We might make it to a bowl this year and I would be happier then a pup with two peters, but in all fairness I would say that 2009 is when we will bust out agian.  By then we will have a qb that has been in the system of the New OC for 2 years and the defense will be used to the New DC for 2 years.

IMO the key to sucess this year is how well the players pick up on the new cordinators.

  • NO EXCUSES!!!!

Look man, there is a reason Snyder is recruiting JUCOS for a fast "pick-me-up".

He knows he needs to win NOW.

    No more EXCUSES.

He has had every excuse out there over the last piss poor 3 seasons.

2008 IS SNYDER'S TIME TO SHINE

If he doesn't, HE IS GONE.
    period........end of story.

To start 2009, we will have a QB who has been in the system of the new OC for 1 year and the defense will have been under the system of the new DC for 1 year, PROVIDED there is no changes between 08 and 09. The excuses have begun.

  • extra green not an excuse that is the truth. New OC and DC coming in will affect things. Funny everyone wants to complain and moan about football but no one says a word about basketball. I want all Marshall sports to win, but be fair about things. If the football progams out of conference schedule had all 1-aa opponents you all would be upset. If the OOC was all BCS schools and we lost all of those you would complain. There has to be a happy medium.

The comparison is based strictly on talent. I feel the top MAC teams of 97 through 04 would be very competitive in the new CUSA. There is no question that the conference change was the right move for MU. I will gladly buy season tickets to see the USM's and ECU's. My point was the program (in my eyes) has regressed. Many have called for Snyder's head, but I felt he deserved to be retained for 08. But another 3-9 record should have the administration contemplating a different direction. Mark was put into a bad situation. He has needed time to "right the ship", but this year as DJ says, he has no excuses. I believe he will be successful this year, but people should not expect a six game swing record wise. 6-6 or better would satisfy, with more improvement expected in 09.

  • 7-5 or bust.  Our fan base want sit around forever waiting for a winner.  I hope he wins every game next year.  If we go to a bowl it will be a success, if we go 7-5 and some how dont go to a bowl it will still be a success.  But I am on the fence about a 6-6 record, if that is the record what should the administration do then?

GB, just an observation, not an attack... you lack something in the logic department with alarming frequency.

    To wit (  ;D )...

You spill the usual crap about the bad coaching... THEN... you offer as an example a mistake that one would ordinarily attribute to players' error, ie simply not paying attention.

    Ingenious. Keen insight.
