  • What's the latest report?

In the spring, Skinner knew the offense the best.  Morris showed the most upside and Devine struggled with a new offense.

I've heard good things about Morris lately.  Has he made a jump?

When does Morris go to court?  What's the recent prognosis of his court date?

    Thanks for any info.

    Go Herd!

  • I'd go with Morris. When in doubt, take the best athlete.  I also got a chance to meet Morris' mom and the GW game and she seemed bery supportive and like she had a great interest in the situation. Given Morris' issues, I think Mama is good medicine.  Seemed like a great lady who was happy to see her son have a chance to be a part of the greatest legacy in college sports.

I agree. From the spring scrimmages it appeared he and Skinner were about even from a statistical passing standpoint. Morris adds the ability to scramble, so I'd say that could win him the starting job.

Remember, another star QB Mark Snyder is close to, Troy Smith. He's a dual-threat QB and helped OSU beat Michigan by running and throwing. I'm sure Snyder will have that in mind.

  • Assuming Morris spends the appropriate amount of time in the film room this summer, he's the starter.  Been saying that for a while and spring practice gave me no reason to change that prediction.

  • I still think it will be Devine.
He will do the things necessary to get done with limited mistakes.
Morris will be back-up moved to WR on certain plays.
Skinner will be clipboard man until he transfers out.

The freshmen QBs will be redshirted.

  • If they are equal now, I would have to go with Morris because of his phenomenal potential.

Who remembers Byron's games in the first half of the 2000 season? His performance was less than stellar, but his upside eventually proved out.

According to Coach P., Morris has more raw physical abilities than Chad or Byron.

But, to paraphrase Yogi, football is 90 percent mental and the other half physicial.

  • Ole Wolfie does seem to favor the Skinner kid.

And if we didn't have two talented QBs, Skinner would be the effecient man for the job.

Devine should win out in the fall.

  • I think Morris, but Jimmy Skinner acts more like a leader than any of the three at this point.  I suspect it is a result of the additional time in the system.

  • I will be amazed if Skinner starts, let alone stays at MU.

I look for him to transfer as soon as he finds out he is not starting.

I think Devine will be the starter shared at times with Morris.
A two headed monster, so to speak.

Then in 2006, if neither has shown or proven to be the man, then one of the freshmen will take the job.

  • I just don't think Skinner is fit for this offense.

He should be in front by leaps and bounds but instead, as a junior, he is in the middle of the pack with a juco transfer and a walk-on sophmore.

  • If BP, were still the head coach, Skinner would start this fall. With Snyder, he liked Morris, right off the bat. Who starts at QB, will depend on how much influence Kueck still has. If Skinner starts at QB, Morris will still potentially start. Devine, may end up transfering, by fall if he see's he is not going to be able to move into the slot he thought he was going to get.

  • I really don't care who gets the job. I think alot depends on morris getting his legal issues resolved in a timely manner. The QB situation will be dramatically different if morris is in slammer on opening day. I will take skinner on opening day. There are just to many questions about morris. You have the typical questions of "is he the best person for the job?" - but with him you also have to ask "will he be out of prision in time for kickoff?". I just think that is to much uncertainty going into summer.

  • We should take a lesson from Penn State's book last year and get your best 11 athletes on the field. The consensus is that all 3 QB's are about even. Take Morris and move him to WR, where we have blatant weaknesses, and let Skinner and Devine battle it out.  PSU did the same with Michael Robinson and he was unstoppable unitl injuring his ankle.

  • carolina,
As usual, I have no idea what you posted.  Please explain a few things:

    a)  Where are you getting your info that BP's choice was Skinner?

    b)  Snyder was on campus for exactly two practices in the spring.  Where are you getting your info that Snyder liked Morris 'right off the bat'?

    c)  Who does Kueck want to start and where are you getting this info?

    d)  What do you mean when you say, "if skinner starts, morris may still start"?

  • Hey DJ,

In your opinion, if Skinner isn't a right fit for our offense, what about Morris makes you steer more towards Devine.

From the spring, Devine looked lost and couldn't show is abilities.  Perhaps by fall, he'll know the offense well enough to compete for the starting position.  However, Morris is so talented, if he works hard and stays out of jail, shouldn't he be the starter?

Great thread.  Our 2005 success depends much on QB.
