  • I coach my daughters softball team and one of my assistant coaches is from Kansas, he told me he was back home over Memorial weekend and said the news is they are looking rather bad.

Take it with a grain of salt, but he is a HUGE K-State fan and he think's MU will kick their  :-? .

    I hope!

  • The overrated #6 K-State team we played in 2003. Isnt the same K-SATE squad this year. I only wish we played them 2 or 3 games later.

Marshall and K-State are simular this season. Both are searching for a QB and WRs. K-State may have more holes though they will also be looking for that elusive RB. That dept at Marshall is filled already. How most if not all magizines have put us a dogs in this game I don't know. Now if they would gave made the game even I could have seen.

  • If this team would be a preseason top 25 team I think it sells out but not sure if they aren't going to be ranked. It still should but who knows.

  • We all love the Herd, but we have a new coach, new players, new QB, new league, new schedule, and our first two opponents are..... W & M, a top 10 1-AA program, and arguably one of the best programs in America. Kansas State, a big 12 opponent, who we upset when they were ranked # 6 in the nation. They are not going to forget this. We could win both of these games, but we could just as easily lose both of these games as well. Personally, I have a great deal of respect for both of the programs, and coaching staffs. We need to make sure we can compete.

    Carolina,

They were overrated at #6 in the country, as happy as I am that we have a top 10 win no way should K-STATE been ranked 6th. Here was their schedule.

    Cal (Not Ranked)
    Troy (Previsional I-A team)
    McNesse St. (I-AA)
    UMASS (I-AA)

Coming into the Marshall game at #6 in the country K-State was overrated. Im a Herd fan through and through, but I can also take off the Green colored glasses and see the truth.

  • early season ratings are all about season expectations.  not who you play the first few weeks of September.

that's how/why teams start where they start.

the ranking at that time was based on expectations of success and returning stars from the prior year.  at that point in the year, alot of highly ranked teams haven't been tested, now Kstate's schedule was very soft...but again, that's not what they were ranked on.  surely you've followed college FB enough to know that.

and really, when you see that they won the Big 12 and spanked a team in the national championship game a #6 ranking is definately in the ball park.  the big 12 is generally one of the top 3 conferences in the country and always a top  5.

i agree with garbanjo, a ridiculous statement and it's got nothing to do with green glasses, it's got to do with understanding how the polls work and how good of a league the Big 12 is.

  • I dont think they were a #6 team without their QB, but they weren't a bunch of pus$*#e either.  K St is a solid program and I dont care how many players they lost or have back from last year they'll still bring the wood with them from Manhatten.  I look for one tough, hard fought game...thats what you get from the good teams that play in the Big 12.

HZ, I would never argue this point with you. I always respect your opinion. However, JMO, they were certainly not anymore overrated at #6, than were BYU, or Clemson, when they won their respective national championships. I, could point out many other over rankings, and under rankings, perhaps even in our own state, but that is the problem with the prejudice of the BCS conferences, vs the non-bcs conferences. The only exception to this is BYU, and this occured, because of their following, their Church, their national appeal, and their head coach at the time. The deal of over, and under ranking of teams, goes on every year in every poll, and in every way imagimable.

    Carolina,

      :P  We don't have any!

You have to remember this was a year before Cal started to become a power again. So if Marshall goes and beats all of those teams would we have been ranked #6. Nope I doubt we would even been ranked. Maybe 3-7 votes in the polls but ppl would be saying our schedle was to weak to rank us. So why was it alright  for K-State then.

  • K-State is one of those unpredictable teams as well. They rely heavily on JUCO's, so there is no telling what they will have on the field come August. They could be a surprise Top 15 team, or a Top 50 team. I hope we beat em, and they win the Big 12.
