I will not deny or confirm whether or not he will stay....all I can say is we will know either Tue or Wed next week officially. I do know it has been discussed, I do know that the BIG donors want him gone, the rest is up the the BOG's. I knew when Pruett was retiring, I knew about Snyders hire, I knew about Jirsa leaving and DJ hiring....this I dont know. All I know is when money talks, people listen. And the only reason they would keep Snyder was if the issue of money....that will be taken care of.

Ok, I have some more accurate info...

It was the board of the Big Green that met.... and they control schlarship money....AS WELL AS...suplimenting the coaches salary....

From what I gather the president can over rule any decision they make to up the coaches salary...but the president has no control over stopping them from decrease funds to supplement Snyders pay...

The second bit of info is that the biggest donors want him gone....and are meeting to put it together....

So, the Big Green has met....and the big donors are going to meet now to work it out.

This "rumor" is just crazy.  I know how a university works and this is not the method. 

The BOG at Marshall is a diverse group.   It's VERY difficult to assemble that body.   

The Big Green should be dissolved if it is involved in any activity such as removing coaches.    That organization exists to fund Marshall's athletic scholarships and our coaches passionately give their time to those efforts.  

As for boosters meeting to discuss coaches, I would say that is possible.   However, please note that the university has an organizational chart and those big $$$ folks are mostly on the outside looking in when it comes to these decisions. 


I fully expect Coach Snyder to return in 2008.   Those reasons are...

1)  He has a contract.  I think he was promised five years when he left Ohio State and the university is going to honor that request.    Buying out such a contract is also cost prohibitive.

2)  Coach Snyder is doing things that please his bosses.  This is a university and graduation rates matter just as much as wins.   I know many of you never attended Marshall or any college, but that is what differentiates college from the pro game.   Coach Snyder has the kids in class and off the police reports.  

3)  Coach Snyder has done an outstanding job with community relations.   I think that has been his biggest asset so far and should not be discounted.   Even with all the "punk" comments tossed at him in the last few weeks, Coach Snyder keeps his cool and laughs them off.   

4)  Coach Snyder fits into the current Marshall value system.   There is a definite shift at Marshall towards a stronger academic environment.   Coach Snyder...along with Coach Jones and Coach Chadwick...are exact reflections of those new core values.   a) Solid family guys. b)  Good public demeanor.   c)  Push academics within their athletic program.  d)  Recruit solid student-athletes.

5)  Coach Snyder is willing to work with his bosses.   Some coaches would have quit over the pulling of the IPF funds.   



Marshall is going to have an outstanding defense next year.   The running game is a real team strength.   Tight end is as good as it gets in college football.  The key is the play at QB.  If Cann can play at the level we saw early in the season, I see no reason Coach Snyder can't take us to a bowl game.

I have information that will sadden most Herd fans.  The BoG wants Snyder gone.  Big boosters want Snyder gone.  Many are trying to convince Kopp that Marshall Football is bigger than he realizes.  However, Dr. Kopp is not listening.  Money is not the issue.  Ego is the problem.  Dr. Kopp doesn't understand what football means to this community.  Does he like football and athletics?  Yes.  Does he understand them?  Not even close.
Is it a done deal that Snyder returns?  The door isn't completely shut on getting rid of him, but it's very very close.  The only way that he will be fired is if over the next 5-6 days someone or a group of people change Dr. Kopp's mind because he wants to keep Snyder. 

Let's hope that someone changes his mind because Marshall Football is dying.

So now we are hearing that they had another emergency meeting....and the timing just happens to be the monday after we became officially bowl ineligible.  Everything seems to be falling into place as I was told it would.  

Don't be surprised at all if Jim Donnan is our coach next year.

One last thing...for people who think Snides will be kept.  Don't you think the admin would have told us he would be back next year if that were the case.  That has normally been their precedence in the past to help calm the rumors and enable recruiting.  I think the silence just backs up this whole thread.

If the money is there, I can't see why he will not be bought out. Our football, with the exception of a few games, is awful. You look on the field and we have the size and speed but we get out played over and over. I played high school and coached youth league and some of the mistakes we make are fundamental. I herd a major league baseball coach once state that the reason you have base coaches is largely to remind the pros of fundamental issues. Our kids appear to be unprepared fundamentally, especially on special teams.

Can you help explain to me why Kopp has the final say in this when the BOG has the clear power to make the decision over Kopp?  If Kopp is given a directive from teh BOG....he better follow it.

That is the same thing I was thinking. Marshall has not made any kind of reassurance statement in keeping Snyder.

MR and others have alot more say in non-athletic projects on campus as well. MR is for academics and building MU and Huntington. I am not speaking for him....but I assume that Kopp knows whom pays the bill. Including several projects that he has on tap...

Next week will be exciting either way....I would call it a 80/20 split with the majority wanting him gone.

I would have to agree with this.   I think he will be back also.  Dont like it but thats what happens when you give someone a extension after 1st year.  Oh well I will be there and buying season tickets and I hope more of you will also because all your doing if you dont is hurting our beloved herd.

Snyder might very well be back...BUT the money is there. I know for a fact...I may not know all 5 of the big money guys you speak of but the main one wants a specific person back. And it does not make sense for anyone whom has sunk in millions of dollars already to the university for adversiting, etc...to want another losing season and loss of fan base. The reason they sunk millions in was for national exposure and love for MU. If you love MU, you dont want the football team to be pathetic. It is our life line...

Kopp is a good academic man but he needs to keep his nose out of athletics and let people who know about athletics run it. He is too worried about the players being Rhodes Scholars instead of having a winning team. I hope players graduate also but they got a scholi to win football games and that is a major part of why they are here.

For the record, I am more than capable of making a decision like you mentioned above when it is a decision that I am at liberty to make.  I have fired many, many, many people, hired many, many, many people, and promoted and demoted the same.  When I say many, I mean litearlly hundreds.
