  • Wolf, I live in VT territory and they will pack our place. They are rabid fans. I suspect UK and Louisville would also.

Any one of these would be a nice visitor to have at the Joan.  UVA, VT, Pitt, UK, UL, NC State, UNC, Purdue, Wake, Vandy.

I agree that any of those schools would be nice visitors to the Joan.  So wouldn't Texas, Oklahoma, Notre Dame and Ohio State but they aren't going to come here either.

Of the schools you mentioned, only Pitt and Louisville would likely consider visiting Huntington, IMO.  And they are not coming for less than 2 for 1.

And why do you consider Pitt and Louisville so superior to Cincinnati that we just completed a 1-1 with?

  • I would sign a 2 for 1 deal with any of a number of BCS teams before I would give WVU a 2 for 1.  2 for 1 with UK, Pitt, Va Tech, Georgia would accomplish the same attendance figures as a 2 for 1 with WVU and MU would get paid more for the road games.  Let them keep signing LSU, Michigan State, Florida State and the likes because this is cyclical and they will be down about the time those games start hitting their schedule.

    Banker:

I just offered my opinion on Wolf's options.  Cincy wasn't on the list.

Not sure where your "Pitt and Louisville so superior to Cincinnati" comment came from, but now that you bring it up, both of those programs are historically superior to Cincinnati.  I love what Brian Kelly is doing for the Bearcats right now and it will be interesting to see if 1) he stays at Cincy and 2) whether they will continue to build on the Dantonio/Kelly momentum.

That is pretty much what I said in an earlier post.  Fans say end the wvu series and start a series with another regional bcs program.  The thing is we cant get any of them to come.  We end the wvu series we have no one to fill the void, will an new AD change that?  Who knows.

  • Wolf:

    Oops.  I see that now.

Division I football scheduling is feeling the pressures associated with rising costs of doing business.  No conference in America is immune to escalating costs.  You'll notice that conferences have recently begun to announce budget cuts for travel squads within conference play.

On the one hand, scheduling games with regional opponents make sense for all Division I programs and that  might provide new scheduling opportunities for Marshall.  However, a majority of BCS schools can clear $1 million or more from home games so there has been a reluctance by most to even try to schedule a road game unless it's picked up for television.

This is a hugely complicated financial issue with most schools.  I believe that most athletic programs know what they would like to do but at the end of the day each institution has to do what is best for them.

  • I just looked at Buffalo's future schedule on NationalChamps.net and I see they have Pitt and UConn both coming to Buffalo.  It looks like they got a 2-2 with UConn and a 1 for 1 with Pitt.  When I see stuff like that it just makes me ill.

check out a few other mid major programs and you'll be real surprised at some of the teams BCS teams that are visiting non BCS programs.

Further proof that we need to only accept a 1-1 or 2-2 with the quEERs or say F off.

  • I would take a 3-2. It is a sell out for Marshall and a cheap trip on our athletic budget! Besides, I believe that this is the year that WVU begins their slide. Now that White is gone, you'll begin to see it.

  • if we don't take a 2 for 1 (or something like a 7 for 4 negotiated by the governor)...it means we are scared to play them.

if so...perhaps we should take Bobby's advice and "get a dog"
