  • Micheal Vick is caught fighting dogs and gets two years in Leavenworth and Donte' Stallworth kills a person while driving drunk and gets 30 days. What is wrong with this picture!

This really makes our Judicial system look like a joke.

  • I overheard on a news station that the man he hit either darted out in front of him or was crossing illegally.  Apparently both parties were negligent, but Stallworth was more negligent.  Therefore, I guess that's why he didn't get a full sentence because he wasn't wholly responsible.

IMO, this doesn't make our judicial system look like a joke.  Based on my limited knowledge of the facts it seems okay.  Read about Kenneth McDuff if you want to hear about real injustice!

I haven't fully followed the story but I think technically he was over the legal limit but I don't think he was highly intoxicated. Not that it takes away from the death but the story I heard was that he went to a party, slept, got up early to go home so he was probably still somewhat buzzed. The construction worker did dart out in front of him. Maybe the result would have been the same even if he had nothing to drink, I don't know.

But, I think he did the right thing by reporting it, staying at the scene and taking full responsibility. I think the family also got a large lump of settlement from him that they had asked for. I think all of those things combined is was what helped him get a lighter sentence.

  • If the construction worker in question did "dart out" in front of the care then that changes things. But still a bad deal for everyone involved.

  • The two cases are apples and oranges.

Not to make light of Mr. Reyes' death, but the Stallworth case was a onetime "accident." The Vick case was a running operation that lasted for many months. It even had its own title (BadNewz Kennels or something like that).

Stallworth owned up to his crime while Vick continuously denied and lied.
