  • I am excited because this season will be a defining season...either Snyder gets this ship turned around and we win 7 or more games or it will be time to find a new coach.  This season has a purpose either way.

  • Sorry. I'll have to go with honesty here. I am not excited about Thundering Herd football. I expect another year of under performance as in the last 4 years. We hear this "8 or the gate" statement from many of the fans, but SERIOUSLY, how many of you HONESTLY expect us to win 8 games? I'll repeat HONESTLY EXPECT 8 wins? If this was year THREE of Snyders stewardship, maybe. But not in year FIVE. We have too many "ifs". If we can get solid QB play, if we have a WR to spread the field, if we can find a consistently good kicking game, if our special team play improves, if we can win on the road, if Snyders in game decision making improves...Not one single "if" has been shown to be an improvement from last year. Not one. We don't know if our defense has really improved, or if it's because our offense still really stinks. And we don't have a set target for the number of wins necessary for Snyder to maintain his job. Will 6 wins in year 5 be good enough? I'm afraid it is. And that more than anything keeps me from being excited.

My heart once leapt at the thought of Thundering Herd football, and I'd get this feeling in my chest of hopeful anticipation. Not the last couple of years. Those feelings have been replaced by a sinking feeling in my gut.
But I'll still go to the games hoping to see the turnaround we've all been waiting for. I'll still root for the Herd, vocally, loudly, and from the heart. And maybe, just maybe, I'll have reason to get excited. Here's to hoping.

  • If it's Marshall football, and if we're 0-0, I absolutely cannot wait.

Doesn't matter who the president is, who the AD is, who the coach is, who our QB is, who's in the radio booth, how often we're on TV, how many players were disciplined since last season, or how many games we won the previous season, or what tragedy occurred since the last whistle blew...

    "What day is it, son?"

    "GAME DAY"

That's all I need to hear. That's all, I believe, the vast majority of Herd fans need to hear.

  • I'm always excited to see the Herd play, but this year I just haven't got my hopes up like I usually do and predict the record. I just can't bring myself to get my hopes up just to be let down again.

I'm on the same page with you. This team will struggle to get 6 wins with Snyder as coach even with a terrible schedule.

  • Super excited for this season with some great games and teams on the schedule both home and on the road.  Anyone that trashes this schedule has not been around Marshall football more than 3-4 years.  Go herd.  Great time for family and football.

I am getting up there in years and I have NEVER seen any high school, college or pro team set a number, out for public discussion, for a coach to keep his job.  Never.

Facts are facts, and Marshall fans are always excited for a season.  Always.  The definition of fan:  an enthusiastic devotee of sports.  A Marshall fan is an enthusiastic devotee of Marshall football.  So every fan will be there whenever possible to support the herd.  (i completely understand financial and family obligations often come first, but whenever possible, they will be there.

Mike Im a fan and Im not excited about this season.  The past four years it has gotten harder and harder to get excited after seeing so many wasted opportunities and excuses.  Maybe once the season starts I will get excited but right now there is nothing to be overly excited about.

Snyder sucks and his brand of football sucks. It's not an exciting time unless you like losing and boring football.

  • I'm REALLY excited about getting to watch the Herd play in the Liberty Bowl in Memphis and the Superdome in New Orleans.

I have no problem with your definition of a fan. But you're OPINION is the source of " So every fan will be there whenever possible to support the herd." Fans have different ways they consider the proper way to act toward what's happening with the program. Some people would like to see MU play smash mouth football, some want to see the Herd air it out. Which one is the best fan? Why didn't the American patriots just send the king of England more money? Wouldn't that have solved the problem?

  • THis is the first season since I have been a herd fan that I have not been excited for the season to start. I love football and love tailgating and can't wait to go but I am not excited about the season.

  • Although I don't expect a great year as far as the win/loss ratio goes, I'm still excited.  I hope the team can get it together and maybe sneak into a bowl.  I would consider that a great season at this point.  On the other hand, I wouldn't be surprised to finish last in CUSA East again.  With this team anything's possible.

  • I'm curious.

I was really excited after our 3-1 start last year....  then watching the trainwreck at WVU is where I began my meltdown.

I'll attend all home games and 1 road game.

And that's all I have to say about it.

  • I'm excited about it. The experience is more than just football for me. It is hanging out with my wife and kids, tailgating with friends and experiencing the whole gameday atmosphere. Am I optimistic about the quality of football? Not as much in the past, but I am hoping for the best.

  • I'm always pumped for the start of football season.  In the past it was because I took great joy in watching the Herd win football games, put up tons of points, win championships and play in bowls.

I am still pumped but moreso now because I look forward to tailgating, checking out 20 yo girls that wouldn't notice me unless I was on fire, and watching NFL games to see past Herd greats on Sundays.

why do people keep saying this is a terrible schedule?

compare this schedule to the last 20 years, the last 15 years, the last 5 years, anything and it stacks up very well.

I'm tickled as pink as a Land Rover that we have "great teams" like Bowling Green and Illinois State on the schedule instead of those losers like Miami and UT ::)
