  • why do people keep saying this is a terrible schedule?

compare this schedule to the last 20 years, the last 15 years, the last 5 years, anything and it stacks up very well.

Anyway you slice it, the schedule is terrible compared to last year's.

    A)  Overall record of opponents:  Last year, it was 89-66 (.574 win pct).  This year, it is 72-79 (.476)

    B)  Bowl opponents:  Last year, we faced 9 bowl participants.  This year, we face 5.

    C)  OOC games:  Sub BGSU (MAC also-ran) for Cincy (Big East Champs), VT for Wisky is a wash, WVU stays, this year's I-AA is better, but maybe not by much... only beat last year's 1-AA opponent 17-10 in OT.

    D)  Conference games:  Sub the three best in West (Houston, Rice, Tulsa) for the three worst in West (Tulane, SMU, UTEP).  Play best in the East (ECU, SoMiss) at home.

  • I am still pumped but moreso now because I look forward to tailgating, checking out 20 yo girls that wouldn't notice me unless I was on fire...

Two more great reasons to be excited about the upcoming season of Herd Football.  Tailgating and 20 year old ladies...  Now that I think about it, tailgating and watching 20 year old ladies on gameday has been more exciting than Herd football recently.

Southern Illinois beat Ill.St 17-10 last year in OT. That's the intended message.

  • well, i guess we'll have to wait and see what this years opponents records end up being.

in any case, the biggest difference is we don't play UC which was at an all time high and play BG instead??  sorry, but it's still UC, not USC.

and the rest Head, not much you can do with conference rotations.

bottom line, this is probably a top 5 schedule of all time herd schedules and at very worst case is probably top 7.

probably bigger things for you girls to whine about than the schedule. ;)

  • here are a few schedules for you boys

    1996 (i know 1-aa) but....

howard, wv state, ga southern, western ky, ut - chat, vmi, western carolina, appy state, the citadel, east tennessee state, furman....

pretty much the who's who of espn prime time ;)

now for some more recent D-1 glory year schedules

2001- florida, umass, tcu (not played), bowling green, northern ill, buffalo, central mich, akron, kent st, miami (not the real one), and ohio.

now if that one doesn't fire you up, what does ::)

2002 -appy state, va tech, central florida, kent state, buffalo, troy state, central mich, akron, miami (not the real one), ohio and ball state

oh how i miss the great days of great schedules :-[

now, we did have decent out of conference schedules in 03 and 04 followed by the garbage of the MAC............so again, i say 07 is a very good schedule.

rip snyder, he'll make it or not, no need to lose all credibility and rip the otherwise good schedule we play.

  • After going to orientation today and seeing all the marshall stuff everywhere, I am pumped for football season!! In every building, seems like every room there are football pictures. Saw pictures of Byron in several rooms, Pennington, Goddard, Moss, etc. Saw Cody Slate out on campus. So yes I am excited.

Yeah and ECU only beat us 13-10 in OT and spanked WVU who in turn spanked our arses, comparing scores is as useless as tits on a boar hog

    i agree.

    i like our schedule.

i think this years is EXACTLY what we should be playing.  a good conference, better than the mac and 1-aa.  good ooc, two top 25 bcs teams and one mid major.

again, nothing wrong with the schedule.

I wasn't comparing scores. My post was to clarify a statement that was misunderstood.

  • After all the comments, I am still excited and hope that the Herald Dispatch gets to work and writes some stories to get us more pumped up.  Ready for two-a-days...

  • Bison, i can't help but agree with you again...this schedule is about as good for us as you can get.

Look, we haven't exactly been stellar lately.

This schedule, forget the damn records and scores of last year, they don't mean anything when the teams take the field, nor should we consider them before game time.

I, personally, am excited for this season because the schedule favors us so much, we're under the radar, and we've got a good group of football players, the playmakers being seniors, who are gonna leave it all out there each down, each game, the entire season...impress impress impress, build stock for potential NFL drafting...they'll all get that mentality and they'll shine.
...of course, Snyder better coach or else he'll be fired and he knows it!!
