  • I found the below information posted by Tee Gee on The Herd Grapevine.

    http://theherdgrapevine.yuku.com/topic/2809/t/FoxSports-Jeff-Goodman-Says-It-s-Down-To.html

    - The job to replace Donnie Jones at Marshall will likely come down to: Pittsburgh associate Tom Herrion, former Charlotte head coach Bobby Lutz, Appalachian State’s Buzz Peterson and Cleveland State associate head coach Jayson Gee. UNLV assistant Steve Henson is also in the mix, but sources have told FOXSports.com that the job will likely go to someone with current or previous D-1 head coaching experience.

  • Gee wouldnt be to bad , I doubt he would bolt the first chance he got , if hes successful that is . Read the article , it also lists a guy from Butler in there , wouldnt be to bad either .

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Jayson Gee, who is beginning is fourth season as Associate Head Men's Basketball coach at Cleveland State, has been rated No. 5 on the list of top mid-major assistant coaches in the country by CollegeInsider.com.

I think also , that Gee , would be a better role model for his players and would also recruit players that would make MU a great school to look up to .

  • I think MU comes out ahead in the long run. I went to daytona and watched DJs first three games at MU. I saw a team that didn't know to close a game and win. I saw the same thing in his last games at MU. A weak occ schedule got him the job at U Can't Finish.

  • I'm glad somebody is excited about Gee...maybe you guys can get me fired up about it.  As for the guy at UNLV, it would reek of cronyism if he were to get the job.  I hope this isn't become a good ole boys and friends of Hamrick's network unless the guys are grossly over qualified.  I've always said in my business life, if I'm going to make the "buddy" hire, the buddy better be able to make me look like a genius for hiring him.  There are always problems when you hire friends.  Did it twice...both backfired and now I'm not at all an advocate of it.

  • I'm just thankful we have Hamrick on this search instead of Marcum.

  • Deciphering the DM column and picking Hamrick's words apart, sounds like his favorite tonight is someone whose current university might attempt to give the guy a raise after we make Coach X an offer... which says Peterson, doesn't it?

EDIT: Or maybe D'Antoni?!?... a guy can dream can't he?

  • I can live with any the candidates mentioned in the above articles. At least Mike is not looking at an unproven assistant coach who has never been a head coach like Jones. I also notice Mike is not looking a coach spent most of his entire career at one school; holding the clipboard and giving out towels during timeouts until his last year of employment. ;)

Yes...Marshall is going to offer D'Antoni $600,000 per year and the Knicks are going to say..."Mike, we are only paying you $6,000,000 per year and we know that Marshall has made you an offer!  We'd like to pay you $10,000,000 to make sure you don't take the 90% paycut to go coach the Herd".

The hell of it is, as poorly as the Knicks are run, it's possible that they could do it.

I think that anybody who has talked to Mike's close MU friends realize that ship has sailed.
