  • I am hoping that we do not see WVU winning this thing. Everywhere I went today in Charleston area, all I saw was people dressed in blue/gold, flags on cars, etc.... I would love to support both as it is good for our state. And, realistically, our state needs support, but, with all the crap I have to put up with being such a devout Herd fan, it is so hard to support WVU. I was just wondering, for Herd fans elsewhere, FL, NC, whatever, is there a hatred of other state schools as strong, if not stronger than we have here in WV? And, would other states take any pride in the fact that any school from that state won a national championship?

  • Or...does everyone here have same issues with supporting WVU, putting that aside, and what it would mean to the state of WV?

  • Alabama is about the only other place I see where it may be stronger.  Duke and UNC is pretty heated and UK and UL are heated, but I dont think nearly as bad as MU and the who.  I believe if both schools were BCS it would be even worse.

  • The problem with wvu is they've built a bad reputation as having the worst fans in sports...which is also a good thing. No one would give two craps about wvu if it weren't for their fans throwing crap at oopposing teams. For espn, that's a story and unfortunately it's a good one because wvu seems to win.

Just imagine how Louisville or Auburn fans must feel. Outside of their cities and a few random small areas, the state is dominated by UK or Alabama. They have to contend with that each year and if they're successful, they'll never get a fair break. I can't think of anyone outside of Duke/unc where the smaller private school can actually make itself larger than the state school. Maybe VT and UVA.

Yet some not so informed Herd fans think that we get a "fair shake" in Charleston...LOL

  • Back when Marshall went for their first 1-AA Championship, WVU took out a whole page ad in the newspaper wishing Marshall good luck. There must be a hint of decency somewhere in a few of them...

  • Seems like WVU and Bowden wore Green Crosses in memoriam too. Bobby opened his playbook for MU as well.
