"I was sitting at practice today and several of us were discussing the Mullet's article about is it ok for Marshall fans to root for USPAM.  The guy in front said his buddy was at the last game in the hole and a SPAMER told him that "maybe you guys can have another plane crash so they can make another movie about you guys."  To me that says it all about their fan base.  I would root for Red China before lowering myself to rooting for those @#&%#s.  To me if you root for them you are selling out the Herd.  This goes for you too Marcbuff."



Some of the things that come out of your mouths are amazing. It's just interesting to me, in the age where almost everyone has a camera right in their cell, no one ever offers proof this garbage ever takes place...no proof, no police reports, nothing!!!!!

Well, I've Goggled it about 10 different ways and NOTHING!
Why, I moved here almost a year ago. A neighbor turned me onto this board, in his words "because maybe now that you live here, you could follow us as well. We could use the support and the money". I honestly tried and got NOTHING but hate.
See, i'm from Morgantown, I grew up next to the stadium and live and breath the Mounties. I honestly barley heard of the herd till 10 or12 years ago and I’m 37. I've had plenty of friends that would root for Marshall, some of them for both teams. Even a great friend who went there and passed away in 2004...her name was Tiffany.
I thought I had a few good reasons to give it a try (especially for Tiff) and QUICKLY knew I wasn’t wanted....why, because I was told as much.
So now, I usually just come here and defend WVU every now and then because this is the only board in pretty much any sport that doesn’t let the other team have a voice.
The above accusation is terrible. I will apologize to anyone who will listen if true, but like most of the swill I read on here, NOTHING is ever proven.

Welcome to Huntington. I grew up there and still own a house there as I will retire in a few and plan to live there part-time. Totally understand why you love your team. You should be proud as they are kicking a$$. But believe me it is true. The shirts were being worn when the coal bowl started. I have a bunch of WVU friends but so many non-friends have damned the Herd it soured me and my first 2 trips up there it was pretty rough to just tailgate and watch the games. My WVU friends and I rag each other and it is a real shame we didn't play back in the 90's but that is the past. Hopefully we will get back to being competitive.

Honestly, I actually asked the same question during the season. Someone made a comment that their was a sign hanging at the tailgate up there this past season that said something about the crash. I commented that in the age of cellphones and Youtube, why a photo wasn't taken is beyond me. Is some of it fabricated? Likely, it is just the way it is. As far as the shirts. I never saw them, but way too many people have talked about them for them not to exist.

I completely understand your need to defend your team. That's fine, but you are coming off as if the fanbase has never done anything wrong. The reputation is there for a reason. Their are plenty of documented cases about the behavior.

I am 34 and was born and raised in Huntington. I never knew anything but The Herd. Believe it or not, WVU was non existent in my world until they played the football game in the 90's. I'm not a big basketball fan, so whatever basketball rivalry was there didn't enter into the equation. My feeling toward WVU was indifferent. I just didn't care about them. I cared about the Herd. Fast forward to the Coal Bowl. My grandmother who is one of the biggest Herd fans that you will meet went to Morgantown. Not only was she cussed at and called names that no person should be called, she had beer thrown on her. Is their video evidence? No, but I'm not going to doubt the word of a 70+ year old woman. That is when the disgust came into the equation. I still stay somewhat indifferent, but now I despise them twice a year.

I love The Herd and you love WVU. Welcome to Huntington and if you stop by the tailgate this year, I will give you a beer and feed you, but don't ask me to speak nice of your team.
