I maintained my support for Herd football when Marshall was being investigated and subsequently punished by the NCAA in the 1960s and again in the 1990s.

I was with a customer here in Reading PA for dinner last night. His girlfriend is from Japan. I asked him what attracted her to the US and he stated she wanted to learning English so she chose WVU as a school to attend since Morgantown is a small city. I apologized to him that she picked the one school that probably couldn't teach English. He and I laughed our rear ends off.

I will say this, not in FLAHERDFANS Def. but just in general.  On this board it seems to many ppl are rooting against uwv instead for THE HERD.  I hate seeing threads about hating on them as it sometimes makes us sound petty, why can't we just ignore them until we play them in some sport.  

When I moved out of state it was hard to find the Herd on tv/radio anywhere.I was labled as a Hillbilly which I was/am quite proud of because I came from WV.  While I do not nor will ever cheer for WVU I can sympathize with the many that cheer for both while living out of state.  Its not like its cstolz ratting on us all the time, he is simply cheering for (I'm Guessing) his home state while living in Florida.  

Lets not turn on our own so fast and remember to promote the Herd everywhere we go...

That said, we're in absolutely no position to make anyone choose one over the other.   We need all the help we can get.

All I'm saying is that attitude will turn off the marginal fan, and we can't afford to turn away ANY fan at this point  If you only want 100% Marshall fans hanging around, you'll have 2000 at basketball games and 13,000 at football games.

The bandwagon fans spend $$$ too.  The fence-sitters spend $$$ too.

It is a very immature stance to try to run off those fans who like both.  WHO CARES who the diehard WVU fans cheer for...they're no different than our diehard Herd fans.  There are just more of them.

We need to welcome anyone willing to cheer for our team at anytime.  Instead of limiting who can be a Herd fan, we need to open the doors a bit wider.  Attitudes like the ones shown here do nothing but hurt our university.
