  • Luke80's comment in the Hassan Whiteside thread about Hassan being the most exciting player since the early 70s stirred me to ponder who I thought was the most "exciting" player that I have seen in person.

Please note that I did not see Greer, Redd, nor Slack, but thought others may have.

No disrespect intended towards Luke80, I just thought it was a fun question for the offseason.

  • I'd say in my lifetime the one year we had Jason Williams he definately did it. Loved watching him.

  • What about Keith Veney? When he was on, nobody shot it better!

Does he still hold the NCAA record for most 3's in a game?

  • Bunny Gibson would have easily ave. over 30 points per game if he had the 3 pointer. Dantoni was such a great floor leader and distributor of the ball, hard not pick him. That team was very special. They toyed with most teams.
Skip was very exciting to watch as well.

No Willie Wilcox? Whats up with that?

  • I voted "other" because without a doubt George Stone was the most exciting player that I've seen playing for my alma mater!

  • For me I would say Bunny Gibson, Skip Henderson or Greg White. I'm surprised you don't have White or Don Turney on there. They were both exciting players in their time. Rodney Holden is another that comes to mind. He was always good for a slam dunk or a right cross to the chin ;D

  • George Stone without a doubt!
The iron man 5 as a team were the most exciting players in my MU BB history; Stone, Redd, D. Dantoni, Davidson, and big Bob( 6'8" was big back then), and the reputation they built by going undefeated playing JV ball against some of the best JV teams in the country, particularly with Orville Stepp avg. somewhere around 40 pts. per game as a JV player.
What day is it? Game day! What day? Game day! Play till the whistle blows!!!!

  • Keith lost the record shortly after he got it . A kid from a lower level school beat him , I seen the highlights , his teammates were trying to have him get it . The players were clearing out under the basket and forming a wall in front of him so he could shoot shoot shoot . He got the record but it was more of a team effort , unlike Keith who actually got it the legit way .

  • There are so many who come to mind, George Stone, The Dantoni's, Russell Lee, and of course many more. I loved the way Ken Labanowski played. He was just plain nasty and very physical, but I too would have to say that Skip was probably the best (just don't let him park your car ;)) and Taft was right there with him.

  • How could you leave Leo Byrd, Marshall's only All-American, off the list?!!

I'm not certain, but from memory, I think that Russell Lee is Marshall's only first-round NBA draft pick.

  • Russell Lee and George Stone second.  Third would be a tie between Skip Henderson and John Taft.  Laverne Evans a close 4th.

  • You can tell the age of you guys who were not old enough to see Mike D'Antoni play. He and Russell Lee and those guys were by far the greatest Herdsters. Stone and his team preceded them so 67-72 was special.

  • 83-88 some of us students referred to the CAM as the Skip Henderson Center . Good thing that never caught on . Skip for me , LaVerne & Taft were also huge .

  • Sam Ervin left , I think , when Turney quit . Afterwards , Ervin begged to get back on the team and Huck stood his ground and said no.
Sam Winley is in the big picture with Huck and everyone where consessions are sold . I get chills when I think of those years .
