  • A few things bothered me...

    1. We all needed to look in the mirror back then and figure out why we wore what we did... some funny stuff......

    2. During the pregame around the city interviews, it seemed like Huntington was more into Marshall then any other time. They had all the babies in St. Marys in Go Herd shirts and businesses got REALLY involved more then recent memories I have, even in 1999. WOWK was all over the place and made it seem more special and a community event.

3, Do we ever get back to that community feel and atmosphere again or is that time past and this whole thing is now to corporate to be able to relive these things?

  • Just win, baby.

It really is that simple. Everyone loves a winner.

  • You have to realize that was a very unique time. We were starting to have success, getting noticed on the football field. Hosting the national championship game for the first time. Playing YSU again and the revenge factor. Those things cant be replicated. We can ramp up the enthusiasm in this day in age and I think we will - as another poster said, winning makes it all better. One thing to remember is, since '92, Huntington has lost approx. 15,000 people and many business's. mainly Ashland Oil. Ashland Oil at the time pumped HUGE amounts of money into MU.

  • I wonder if that was a time, a rare one, where a smaller school overtook the state university as far as popularity within the state.
I could see Louisville a few years back being able to overtake UK in football and basketball (UK was terrible and UL was amazing at both) but i doubt that was reality.

Gotta win. Gotta win and keep winning. We began to win at the time...increased our levels by making national championships and winning those.

Now we gotta win. Win conferences. Win bowl games. Win against BCS teams. Win in BCS bowls.

This town is a sleeping giant for a huge overhaul in fan support...I can just sense that. Can't wait for kickoff.
    GO HERD!
