  • Let's say we have a huge year next year as most expect and Herrion leaves for a bigger job. And the Knick's aren't doing to well and if they struggle next year could it be Dantoni's last? And would he be ready to come back home and settle down with the Herd with a lot of talent? I hope Herrion stays but if he leaves it could be good timing and i think Dantoni will have his NBA pension vested. It could be a possibility and i think this time if he was interested we have an AD that would make it happen.

  • I was thinking the exact same thing the other day when I saw a story about how poorly the knicks are playing. The best thing is....I believe now we have an AD with enough brains to at least talk to him.

Hard to predict anything in NY... D'Antoni is Donnie Walsh's guy... but Donnie Walsh is quite possibly being nudged out in favor of the ever-present Isiah Thomas... and then, what?... never a lack of drama in MSG.

  • Two things for certain:

    1. Knicks jobs are never stable. Things change there on a dime.
    2. Dantoni would love to coach MU and be apart of making our basketball program big time.

  • Thomas is down in Florida coaching . I seriously doubt any NBA team would have anything to do with Thomas . His track record isn't that impressive and he basically destroys any team he comes in contact with .

  • I think the timing would have to be just right. Dantoni would have to be let go from the Knicks and be without a job when and if Herrion left. If that is the case then i think it will happen IF Dantoni still wants the job. Because i think that would be Hamrick's 1st phone call. He knows that would be the fans 1st choice and we would be getting an NBA coach of the year coach. I hope Herrion stays a long time but if he leaves i hope this plays out because we would have a heck of a coach for a long time IMO.

  • As my son is marrying a girl whose family is New Yorkers and life long Knicks fans, they told me repeatedly yesterday Mike was likely out.

  • Keeping D'Antoni would make better sense than getting Thomas , he was a great player but thats about it. He's destroyed everything he's come in contact with after playing .

  • It's Walsh who would be replaced by Thomas, not D'Antoni, insofar as anything I've read... but GMs do tend to bring-in their own guys fairly quickly if not immediately.

  • Love watching D'Antoni's teams play, but I don't think I've ever seen a system that plays less defense than his.  Billy Tubbs (Oklahoma) and Paul Westhead (Loyola, etal.) were comparable, but Mike's Phoenix and NY Knicks teams don't even seem to attempt defense.

"When you take that field today, you've got to lay that heart on the line, men. From the souls of your feet, with every ounce of blood you've got in your body, lay it on the line until the final whistle blows. And if you do that, if you do that, we cannot lose."

  • Make no mistake about it........Dantoni would love to coach Marshall.
If he is available and the if the Herd job ever comes open.........if offered the job, he would take it.

    Alot of "IFs" there.

  •   I watched this team grow as the year progressed. It just missed the NCAA, and got screwed by the NIT.  We really should NOT have gone to that other tournament.  Next season will start off slowly  because if it, but by Christmas we will begin to roll  and make to ether the NCAA or NIT next year. We are undermining this team by even talking anout a new coach at this time.  STOP IT.

  • I agree...

Quit with the talk of Herrion leaving.

How do any of you know D'Antoni still wants to coach here? Do you call him at home and ask him?
Just because he expressed interest a few years back doesn't mean he still wants to, especially with Carmello on the team.

I think it'd be much more fun imaginig the world without greenbison's psuedo positve threads. All he's trying to do is stir up false hopes and negativity.
Plus, certainly shows where your loyalties lie in regards to Herrion and the job he's done.

Who's to say he will leave anyway?

    .

Yes, I know for a fact he would want to coach Marshall. Got first hand info on that one.
Again, with the Knicks front office drama, things could change for Dantoni in a quick new york minute.

As for greenbison60's post, I think it's a valid topic. It is a what if and stars have to line up type topic, but it is interesting to talk about it. Don't see no wrong with it.

But right now, it is Herrion's Herd. And if he leaves us it will mean that he took us to the NCAA Tournament and our bball program is on a serious high.

It's just a "what if" scenario, RELAX

  • Yes DJ i agree. I was just using a what if. I would love for Herrion to be here for ever. I love the guy and his passion. But someday he will leave and if he has the monster year next year like most of us think, it will be hard to keep him. That is all i was saying. Because if he does leave and Dantoni would happen to be out of a job, wouldn't it be sweet to get a guy like that? Go from one great energizer to a guy that would really get the fanbase excited. I hope Herrion stays forever...but if he does leave, there is nobody i would rather have than Dantoni. I thought that is what the boards were for. Otherwise we should just read the newspaper for the NEWS!!!!

Taft, I normally agree with you, but on this one, I have to say you are off base my friend. D'Antoni rebuilt the Phoenix Suns. The enthusiasm he brought back to the Suns and their organization was nothing short of a miracle! Many experts predicted the Suns would be at the bottom for a long period of time, before D'Antoni's arrival. I'm a big Mike D'Antoni fan, period!  Maybe I'm biased, whatever it is, Mike is one of my favorite all time Herd players ever!

  • Big lol from me to the guy who says this hurts recruiting! Yeah none of our current players or future possible recruits would ever want to play for a guy who has coached in the NBA. All these guys play college ball for the education and the thought of the NBA never crosses their mind.

You may be biased, but at least you know it.

In truth, Colangelo (sp) was the GM who gets credit for "re-building" the Suns. D'Antoni took what his GM gave him, and fortunately for him, the players fit the coach.

People tend to forget that in D'Antoni's previous stop (DEN), things didn't turn out so well... notably, even though he had had a hand in building that team as its Director of Player Personnel.

Taft my bad! You are right on about Thomas destroying the Knicks. It seems like Isiah is still running the Knicks, even while  he's still coaching at FL.Int...
