With apologies to rock legend Elton John, this particular Saturday’s all right for tackling, blocking, hitting and, well, maybe some fighting.

After two days of shorts and helmets, Marshall will go full pads with Saturday’s 10 a.m. practice at Edwards Stadium.

For coach Doc Holliday, it will be a day of pure football evaluation.

“I’m excited,” Holliday said. “With the full pads, there will be nowhere to hide. We’ll separate the guys who like ball and the guys that don’t.”

More than likely, the Thundering Herd defense will appear to like it a little more Saturday than the offense.

The key matchup pits a veteran defensive line anchored by All-American candidate Vinny Curry going up against inexperienced offensive line whose job will be to protect an inexperienced quarterback.

The red, “no-touch” jerseys donned by A.J. Graham, Eddie Sullivan and Conelius Jones might serve an even greater purpose.
