HUNTINGTON — After finishing the last of his several interviews, Conelius Jones sprinted into the locker room — still with jersey on and helmet in hand.

Uhh, Hey Rook, those don’t go with you.

An equipment manager tracked him down and Jones, with a sheepish smile on his face, jogged back out and handed the manager the helmet and threw his No. 17 red jersey in a laundry basket set up right outside the Shewey Building.

    Welcome to college football, C.J.

It was one practice later than he expected, but Jones, the highly touted quarterback and former University of Michigan recruit, made his debut for Marshall University on Friday at Joan C. Edwards Stadium.

“It’s different than high school,” Jones said. “It’s faster, but I kind of like it.”

Thundering Herd coach Doc Holliday said they got clearance for Jones on Thursday.

In regards to Jones, does this mean the "clearinghouse" issue is "laid to rest"? Or is it like year...where a player practices for several days then gets pulled for the season?

If the clearinghouse was portrayed in the movie "WATERBOY", Kathy Bate's character would say: "The NCAA Clearinghouse is the devil!"

  • As for me I'm going to take the good news and run with it.

Do we have a nickname for Jones ?

My last attempt, 'Damier "Daimler Benz" Pitts - The Motor of Marshall Basketball', never seemed to catch on for some reason. Maybe it was too, "Corny".

  • Mr Ash from what I've heard, Conelius is officially cleared.  No restrictions.  I think the 14 practices allowed Van last summer was because an appeal was in progress.  No apeal in Mr. Jones' case by the Herd.
