  • To paraphrase a NASCAR mantra..."if you aint cheatin', you aint winnin'"

"When you take that field today, you've got to lay that heart on the line, men. From the souls of your feet, with every ounce of blood you've got in your body, lay it on the line until the final whistle blows. And if you do that, if you do that, we cannot lose."

  • exactly.....  start at #120 and work your way up.... the cleanest programs are at the bottom.....

In fact....look for the bottom of the barrell BCS teams....and thats a place to start....

Some big BCS schools that have been stuck in mediocrity for 10+ years.....there is a sure winner....they havent cheated much....

  • Im just waiting for the darling conference of TV and alot of local fans , the SEC , to feel the heat from the NCAA . I have no doubt that the things that are going on at OSU , Oregon or GTech are going on there too , if not worse . Look at the success the SEC has had in the last decade , its not just the high academic standards , umm , the schools have.

  • The logic I hear being promoted is that if we make it to the top of CUSA it will be as a result of cheating. It would suggest that both TCU and Boise have cheated as well. I'm not sure it they have or haven't. Maybe a good question is who hasn't cheated at still achieved consistent top 25?

  • TCU maybe?  Sports Illustrated did an article about I-A programs taking athletes with arrest records and TCU doesn't have one kid last year with an arrest record.

  • I'd say Penn State, except last yr they only won 7 (1,000,000 picks in the bowl cost them 8).  Stanford would be next, but with out looking doubt if they've won 8 the last 5 yrs.

I was thinking of TCU also. That school hit the lottery when they hired their coach.

  • As the Ohio State University president pointed out, start with the "Little Sisters of the Poor".  That's where you will find schools that play according to the law and should have the most respect from fans.

While we'd all agree that those are the programs that DESERVE respect, but it's all about the "W" and "Q-ratings" --- those two together = $$$ and where it may not be right --- that's ALL that matters in today's College Football landscape!

  • The SEC gets caught and put on probation all the time. To them it's just a cost of doing business. 10 of the 12 SEC teams have committed major violations and put on probation at least once, several have multiple offenses. Of course Vanderbilt is one of the clean ones which is why they suck.

Exactly . But according to the networks , thats where the top football is played . The SEC is the perfect example of what consistent cheating can do . Do people think the cheating stops once a schools gets caught ? Not hardly .

  • And an SEC school just got put on probation:

    Quote
BATON ROUGE, La. -- LSU committed major violations while recruiting a junior college football player but won't be slapped with any postseason bans or future scholarship reductions, the NCAA ruled Tuesday. The governing body decided to place the school on probation for a year and cited a former assistant coach for unethical conduct.

The investigation found that former assistant coach D.J. McCarthy improperly arranged for transportation and housing for former defensive lineman Akiem Hicks in 2009 before later trying to cover up those actions.

The NCAA accepted LSU's self-imposed reduction of two scholarships during the 2010-11 academic year, as well as a 10 percent reduction in official visits and reductions in recruiting calls. LSU had already begun reducing official visits during 2010-11, but the NCAA expanded the punishment to include 2011-12.

McCarthy resigned in December 2009. Hicks never played for the Tigers before he left LSU.

In a statement, McCarthy said: "I am grateful that the NCAA has concluded its investigation and welcome the opportunity to someday return to the realm of college coaching. Although I disagree with the NCAA's findings and the manner in which I have been characterized, I will take the next few days to thoroughly review all options, including appealing their decision."

  • Does anyone think if Marshall committed the same major recruiting violations as LSU that we would receive the same punishment?

Does anyone think that LSU's self-imposed reduction of two scholarships during the 2010-11 academic year, as well as a 10 percent reduction in official visits and reductions in recruiting calls will affect their program that much?

Those sanctions will have exactly ZERO effect on their program...none, nil, zilch, zip.

  • The conclusion to be drawn from the article is LSU cheated to get a defensive lineman who didn't play for them.

Now, can you imagine how much they'd cheat to get a legitimate starter??

  • First, players are allowed to earn paychecks.  Our players worked and were paid.  They were just paid more than the going rate.

Second, regarding your "always get hammered worse by the ncaa" comment, I would simply ask you what the NCAA did to Marshall beginning in 2001 and compare it to what the NCAA is doing to LSU in 2011?  Well, the NCAA took away from Marshall not 1, not 2... but 20(!) freaking scholarships over four years and didn't allow us to accept non-qualifiers during that time... two steps which basically paralyzed our football program.

    As you stated, jees...
