The most amazing NCAA statement in the article...

"Investigators said they found no evidence that Ohio State failed to properly monitor its football program or any evidence of a lack of institutional control, according to a letter sent to the university and released Friday."

Can you believe that?  I mean, we all knew it was going to happen, but this is the NCAA rubbing it in our noses.  Why not release a statement saying:  "They are AN ohio State, they are above our jurisdiction.  We can do nothing to them because the financial implications are far too great for us.  We would hate to see them sanctioned to the point where they aren't competitive in the Big (SLOW) 10 and therefore not making the estimated $57,000,000 in their football offices this upcoming year.  Furthermore, if Boise State doesn't figure out what is going on in their football program, with 2 kids receiving $407 worth of Nike gear, we will have no choice but to hammer them.  Carry on Auburn, whOregon and AN ohio State, we will put in a good word with our pimps at the BsCS to make sure you are ranked high enough in their initial poll to coast into a $15,000,000 bowl game so you can give out the $10,000 championship rings that have become the meal ticket to so many of your players."

"When you take that field today, you've got to lay that heart on the line, men. From the souls of your feet, with every ounce of blood you've got in your body, lay it on the line until the final whistle blows. And if you do that, if you do that, we cannot lose."

  • How about Tennessee and their "self-imposed probation" and this statement:

"In addition to the probation outlined in the May response to the NCAA's allegations, Tennessee imposed punishments on new basketball coach Cuonzo Martin and new football coach Derek Dooley. Neither Martin nor Dooley have been accused of wrongdoing."

These guys weren't even there when the violations occurred and they are being punished!  Tell me how "meaningless" and without "teeth" this whole deal is when you do something like that!  If you are one of the blue bloods, you can simply do ANYTHING you want and then just "self discipline" and the NCAA will go right along with you!

  • Well that explains the weather today. An entire nation pissed off knowing once again it pays to lie.

Now let us all embrace the osu trolls on this board to come out.

About the only remedy for this is osu doesnt win a game this season.

    It could happen.
Hate him or not, Tressel found ways to win. I hate Jim Tressel. Do you think this new guy is going to have ANY clue how to win?
They also lost a pretty good college QB too.
I think osu is going to have far too much baggage for any good coach to want to deal with especially considering how quickly they tossed Tressel to the curb after "sticking by our man." Lord knows how brutal the fanbase is, just ask Hierbstriet.

I dont believe for a second that Urban Meyer would come back to coach them either. If he does, he'll be in a body bag before the season ends. If he thought Florida was a stressful job...the reflection of what he'd have to undertake at ohio state would give him a heart attack.

  • Im expecting some punishment , dont read to much into that statement .

Luke F. , if he manages to win 9 games , will be named HC . That being said , its gonna take a miracle for them to win 7 imo. Tressel won but his offenses could put you to sleep. Im sure Urban is keeping his eyes on Columbus . He was supposed to be taking some time away from college football but hes traveling all over the country covering the teams . Urban is going to be a coach again and Im betting its going to be right up the road in Columbus , especially if his wife has any say in the matter .

  • All I can say is if what we are witnessing in Columbus and at whOregon, Auburn and Tennessee isn't "lack of institutional control", I don't know how that charge could ever be leveled against anyone.  It's appalling, and really, nobody cares or thinks its all that bad apparently.

Mafia, I bet Phil Knight could walk up to you and write you a check so large you would denounce Marshall and wear wvu gear for a week. To say otherwise would denote your real name is William Wallace or require an MRI, which he'd pay for.

However...I do think you'll see some MAJOR objectioning from the PAC-12. USC is looking at this issue very seriously and carefully.
The evidence is all there folks. There is no denying Tressel ran a real bad program. No denying it lasted for over 8 years and even 2 schools. No denying the comments made from ohio state that they supported that type of behavior.
USC had 1 player and 4 years with less convincing evidence...the only reason why USC got hit hard was because they didn't actually get a chance to fire Pete Carroll vs his very sudden departure.

Oregon's coach is responsible for what happened there. The smart thing is to simply tell the truth. The school won't get hammered as much and if they do...well, thank you all for buying the new Nike Marshall apparrel helpin out Oregon...and if you're buying Under Armour...alright then. Your fincances wouldn't even make a dent in Nike's revenue.

I don't know the situation at Tennessee unless it's strictly Bruce Pearl's whole fiasco.

If Meyer went to ohio state then he'd be deemed a liar since his health would "miraculously improve" and "not have any more issues." Which would be a nice fit, since their coaches and staff are all liars.
Seriously, I think he's going to be like Jon Gruden who's shaping his carer like Mike Huckabee,
"I'm thinking about coming back. I have a huge announcement to make! CANNON BALL! Oh yeah, I'm not coming back to coach, or run for president, whatever."

I must admit, this whole thing has shocked me. It's shocked me because I truly thought the NCAA was ultimately going to side with the best overall winner in college football. That would be the SEC. They win on the field and make a ton of money. They don't make the most right now, but if the NCAA ultimately chose to abandon the Big Ten for the love of the SEC then surely, the NCAA would've certainly endorsed that conference so much it'd eventually hog the national spotlight and be the most of everything and honesrly, what could the Big Ten do!? Their brand of football is boring and.when compared to the SEC and even PAC 12, they look like dog$hit.

The NCAA is really making enemies here...the supposed strongest group is not goin to disband if the NCAA doesn't hit them, the Big Ten, but everyone else might split. The most exciting brands of football will leave the love affiar of the NCAA and Big Ten.

Finally, mafia, you're treating this like a new invested set of stocks. Stop watching the ticker seemingly religiously...it'll freak you out with every little change possible.
While is is a forecast for bad weather ahead, bad meaning BS nothing happening, it certainly isn't set in stone. The NCAA has ample time to hear the backlash from the preview of what we COULD see and thus, change up entirely, what we WILL see.

Keep your head up and hope the NCAA comes to their senses!

    PS
    Read an interesting tidbit,
Stanford and Penn State, only two BCS programs to never be charged with a major violation.

The NCAA isn't done with OSU , I'm sure their penalties won't be as bad as alot people are hoping but they'll get something . College football as a whole is out of control IMO .

  • OSU's athletic director was head of the NCAA basketball selection committee.  Did anyone think that he would punish himself?  The NCAA is running scared right now.  They are afraid that the big schools will form their own governing body.  Look at recent rulings after all of the controversy with the USC ruling.

WVU...no major penalty, LSU...no major penalty,  Auburn...no major penalty, Oregon...no major penalty, Tennessee...no major penalty and now the OSU..nothing is going to come down on them.  No big school is going to get anything no matter what they do.  The schools that should be wary are the non BCS schools....they will get hammered, look already at Boise St...got labeled lack of institutional control because of women's tennis but it hurt the football program.

  • You know it hurts. It hurts real bad. We make a mistake and it seems the whole world caves in on MU. Some of it may be deserved. Some of it is insecure contemporaries inflicting pain, because it has became a little to close for comfort for them. Yet others never know, don't care, but our own fanbase becomes our own worse enemy and will not let it (ever) die.
Some of my very best ever friends are tosu lifetime fans. This has literally killed the ones I know. Their pride and spirit could not be more penalized, yet I will guarantee you they will never ever continue to berate their University the way MU fans do.
Maybe we can learn a new behavior from there misfortunes.

  • Think about the implications...it could be a good thing for the mid majors of the world. Let's face it, if stipends are introduced every player at Auburn takes a pay cut...and every other SEC school too. Might as well get on with it, let's see what happens. My guess, it backfires miserably. NFL isn't going to have their turf invaded. College no longer will be its free training ground, and they begin to form tons of semi pro teams in smaller markets to develop their own farm system.
