ANDREW RAMSPACHERThe Herald-DispatchEDITOR'S NOTE: This is the sixth installment of a 12-part series previewing Marshall's opponents for the upcoming football season.HUNTINGTON -- In a tiny way Marshall played a huge role in the emergence of Jeff Godfrey.Things were about halfway through the first quarter on an ugly, soggy night last October at Joan C. Edwards Stadium when Rob Calabrese, the other half of UCF's two-man quarterback rotation, scooted through a hole and glided easily into the end zone for a 2-yard touchdown scamper to give the Knights an early 6-0 lead on their way to a 35-14 romp. There was a brief celebration followed by a scary moment. At some point between when Calabrese crossed the goal line and when he went to hand the football to an official, his knee gave out in a way that it shouldn't.It was an ACL tear -- Calabrese was done for the season. With still half the year to go, Godfrey, a freshman, was handed the permanent keys to the offense. There would no longer be special packages for his junior teammate.
Agree. If either AJ or ES gets hurt I think the will pull Cato's redshirt in a heartbeat... If he doesn't come in and steal a roster slot anyway.Just a hunch. All we have to go on is his awesome HS film.p2m
