  • I notice O.J. Murdock was signed as well.  He was going to come here but couldn't get academically qualified, right?

  • some on the Buffalo forum were glad..others remarked that these guys seldom made the team. If a guy with a nose for the ball and sub 4.5 speed at 250 lbs cant play spmewhere up there then I question the talent judges....5'11 or no. Turn him loose on KO coverage and he will score frequently. Maybe punt coverage..or all ST stuff. But I think he can be a LB in the league too....too good for ST only!

I read ...bad move... and ...dumb choice... and ...he'll be lucky to get a spot on he practice squad..................It would be a great setup to have an automatic debit account deduction for every chest thumping prediction that ended up a bust. Put an element of risk in the past-time of football forum "this is how it's gonna go" predicting.

  • I'm wrong about this stuff sometimes too but I am an amateur. Wonder if the guy that thought Ryan Leaf was the second best bet when he came out still has his job? Shuler? The running back from Nebraska named Phillips that went #1 and didnt last one yr or two? These guys getting paid huge money to know often dont know anymore than we do...let alone Buffalo fans on their message board.

  • If he can't make it as a LB (which he can) he will make a career being a special teams phenom.

  • Pittsburgh's 93.7 The Fan just interviewed a pro football "insider" to pick his brain about the Steelers signings. He (sorry, didn't catch name) said the top two to make the team were Mario and the defensive tackle from Southern Miss.

Said Harvey should excel on special teams and would bump last year's super bowl goat Fox off the roster.

    FWIW

  • I agree, the Steeler type of D and Mario are a great combo.  I would think he is the next NFL Herd when all is said and done.

  • Awesome for the Herd....but even more awesome for Mario.  How great is it for him to fulfill his dream of playing in the NFL and getting to do it with the greatest franchise in the history of team sports.

    Here we Go Steelers!!!

"When you take that field today, you've got to lay that heart on the line, men. From the souls of your feet, with every ounce of blood you've got in your body, lay it on the line until the final whistle blows. And if you do that, if you do that, we cannot lose."

Mafia, I understand your excitement and I have it too BUT, although the Steelers are a very good franchise, it doesn't top the New York Yankees for me. But since Mario doesn't play baseball and I could care less about the NFL, all is good!

  • Steelers signed another LB - a kid from the Citadel - the kid only started 7 games in college and has some how been cut by the candian football league already?

    Quote
    LINEBACKERS
Erik Clanton, 6-3, 242, The Citadel: A defensive end in college, Clanton will play outside linebacker for the Steelers. In 29 games – seven starts – over his first three seasons, Clanton totaled 52 tackles and 4.5 sacks, but then he really blossomed as a senior. In 2010, Clanton was voted first-team All-Conference after posting 14 tackles-for-loss and nine sacks. At his pro day workout, Clanton ran a 4.83 and did 11 repetitions in the bench press. He had signed with Montreal of the Canadian Football League, but he was released before the Alouettes’ season began

Former MU LB Mario Harvey Signs With Pittsburgh Steelers, Not Bills

    by Woody Woodrum
    Herd Insider Senior Editor

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The first report about a former Marshall linebacker who went undrafted this past spring was he would be heading to upstate New York.

After the NFL settled its strike, early reports had former Marshall University outside linebacker Mario Harvey has agreed to sign as an un-drafted free agent (UDFA) with the Buffalo Bills, according to the websites www.NEPatiotsDraft.com and www.buffalobillsdraft.com.

Harvey and the other players listed below had agreed, in principle, to deals, and these become official Tuesday morning after the deals are signed and forwarded to the National Football League's offices.

Apparently, however, the deal in principle was sent to the Principal's Office about 10:40 a.m. Tuesday, as the Pittsburgh Steelers announced Harvey had agreed to a contract with the defending AFC champions.

Harvey would join other former Marshall players, in teammate Doug Legursky - starting center for the Steelers in the Super Bowl last February - and back-up quarterback Byron Leftwich.
