  • They plan on playing one game a year calling it a "mini bowl" at a neutral location, and since we know the Irish would never come to Huntington lets get 'em in Charlotte.

“Mini Bowl Games” an Excellent Idea

Notre Dame, Ind (UHND) – A Monday article in the USA Today reported that Notre Dame will be looking to play a game a year at a neutral site at rotating venues around the country. The games would be like “Mini Bowl Games” according to Kevin White and is one heck of an idea from the Notre Dame athletic department.

  • correct me if I'm wrong but didn't we try to schedule them IN SOUTH BEND as a 12th game in 2002 and they turned us down?  Why would they schedule us on a neutral field if they're too scared to face us at home?

  • Love 'em or hate 'em, if you get the chance to play N.D., you take it because you are guaranteed a national audience on NBC on Saturday afternoon.

    Too Scared

That was not an issue one way or the other. It had to do with the rest of their schedule as well as the attempt to schedule the game was on the spur of the moment.

  • Ditto MUboss32...I also say bring 'em on!  If there's one team I absolutely despise it's Notre Dame.  I'm for anyone who plays the Irish.  Put it this way... if the University of Baghdad had a football team and was playing ND, I believe I'd have to share a box of popcorn and fire a few weapons in the air with Saddam had he still been in power in an effort to cheer-on his Iraqis.

  • Looking at Notre Dame's past schedules, I dont think they would play a non-bcs conference shool.  The only ones that they play are the service academy schools and BYU every once in a while.  They havent played a MAC team since 1912.  And they havent played Army since their first year in CUSA and no other CUSA schools.

  • Notre Dame is so arrogant.  I would play them on the moon and have Richard Branson drive the team shuttle to get up there.

They recently announced that they are going to be scheduling MAC, C-USA and WAC teams.  The alumni and supporters don't like the fact that their schedule is always rated one of the toughest.

  • Just out of CUSA they could play...

    Marshall or ECU in Charlotte
UTEP,SMU, RICE or Houston in Dallas
So Miss, UAB or Tulane in New Orleans
UCF in Miami, Jacksonville or Tampa
Tulsa or Memphis in Kansas City

Aint gonna happen tho.  So there was really no point in even posting those scenarios.  :?

No offense Herd20 it's just simply I can't stand their guts that's all.  We all have teams that we despise.  It just so happens that ND tops my list.  Maybe it's because of their arrogant attitude.

So W0lfman, what is CUSA saying in regards to a timeframe when a league member may be playing ND...2006 or later?

None taken...I was just wondering.  I always hear how people despise them, I just always wondered why.  It's not like they have been good in the past 15 years or so.  I was just wondering.

I'm not aware of any talks with CUSA regarding Notre Dame playing one of our conference mates.  I just posting an article and a few scenarios where it could work and give ND the exposure they want in certain areas of the country without playing a BCS team.  They already play a tough schedule and they dont want to add any teams like UGA or Bama just to get exposure in the south...so the alternative would be to play a team from CUSA in a big city neutral site.  Whether CUSA is working with ND to make something like that happen is anyones guess.

I'd much rather play WVU 3 times, VPI twice, and once with K State so if I had one ND, I'd trade you in a heart beat.  I'll bet you traded a 1963 Pete Rose for one of those Billy Ripken F--K face cards too didn't you.
