  • There's only one roster geek that I listen to when it comes to roster prognostication:  DA4Herd.

The rest of you peasants should bow before him.

  • Where's DA4Herd?  I'm wondering how our 2-deep will take shape?

He actually has a pretty demanding job.  I've tried to talk him into quiting and just kicking around here all day but without much success.  8)

  • There are too many variables right now to speculate for the fall - will all the 04 recruit NQ's actually be eligible, who in the 05 class will and won't qualify and exactly where they'll play and any more position switches coming out of the spring (especially guys moving around on the OL and maybe DE & LB).  Back on Feb 3 I posted my guess at a 2-deep for the spring.  Here it is again, with a few alterations to reflect position changes and Hanshew's article of Sunday Feb 13:

    QB: B. Morris/Skinner/Devine
RB: Bradshaw/Williams/Small/Albin (mostly FB in a 2-back set)
    WR: X: Hargrove/Lauzon
    Slot: Fitzgerald/Moore/M. Morris
    Z: Spann/Manns/Echols
    TE: Mullins/Shope/Parkhurst/Bragg
    LT: Bullock/Ziegler
    LG: Inman/Barnes
    C: Legursky/Howard
    RG: Elcess/Baynes
    RT: Cook/Altobello

    DE: D. Thomas/Herscher
    Kaminski/Tinker/El-Amin
    DT: Garrett/Wright
    Davis/Merritt
    LB: Couch/Kitchens
    Newsome/Thornton/Wilks
    Hoskins/Noel/Morgan
    CB: Smith/Clark
    Hawkins/T. Thomas
    S: Keyes/Rodamer
    Royal/Moravec

    P: O’Connor/Urrego
    PK: O’Connor/Biagi

If Bullock stays at LG make LT Barnes/Ziegler and LG Bullock/Inman.
Go HERD.....and Go get your PSA Test....it may just let you cheer a little longer.....

  • The funny thing about the 2 deep depth chart is that it changes on an almost weekly basis in the off season.  The coaches have a chart that they keep up in the film room and are constantly changing the little name tags around, depending on who's going to class or showing up for conditioning, etc.

Then Spring ball comes around, and a ton of changes are made.  I remember Chris Hamilton being a "sure thing" at DE, but Eric Clausen had the Spring of his life and wound up starting for us.  He was on one side and Hamilton was at the other.

After Spring it goes back to changing a lot.  But it's almost impossible to say for sure, right now.  My money for QB is Morris.  Provided he is able to duck the charges against him.

  • In all honesty, I would like to see O'Connor handle kickoff duties only.  I'm a nervous wreck every time he attempts a punt or a FG.

I'd like to see Urrego punt and Nick Kelly eligible again for FGs.

  • I think Howard if eligible will back to the D, the recruiting of the JC center, cant remember his name but it is talking to me.  I don't even think big ol' L has the center job wrapped up, he had a hard time with it last year and again, the voices in my head tells me the JC guy may be the starter before it all over.

It's not like I know what I'm talking about, I just like to talk...   :)

Speed is great, but you have to catch the ball. IMO, we need a younger player to emerge here.

From what's been said publicly, I think the JC OL's are targeted as OT's or OG's.  Coach Gale on WBES on signing day said something like 'We got 5 tackles who could also play guard but we got one true center' - he was referring to Leggett.

  • From rumors I have heard, I think Flier will become a starter at X.  Other speedsters like Leath may become playmakers too.

JC recruit Souder sounds like a beast - perhaps he finds his way into a starting LB role come August.

I hear good things about CB Zearrick Matthews.  I predict he'll be second-team CB in August and get some PT this season in the nickle and dime packages.

    Just my guesses. :???:

  • Although we seem to have some talent at DT returning, late signee DT Chris Terrell could be a starter, 6-6, 315 lbs.

6-6, 315 lbs., can you say run stopper?

  • That's it out of that group listed although both Spillman and Albert were in the 2005 class and arrived on campus in the summer.

How many guys on our 2014 roster do you think will end up at least getting a free agent deal?  I would say a lot more than 2.

Bernie is still making a living playing ball. Several players played professionally at lower levels.  That said, it wasn't a very strong team and the coaching didn't help a bit.  We had really lined it up to win big in 2004, with lots of strong seniors, but it just didn't work out.
