  • Black? Oh, God, I hope not!
Marshall's colors are GREEN AND WHITE. The only damned black, if any, should be the shoes.

  • How do so many people insist that marshall's colors are only green and white?  I'm pretty sure it's been linked on marshall's website numberous times showing black was one of marshals accent colors, I would believe- just like white!!  Right now-  kids like black.  I'm our past- people liked yellow.  Marshall's color is green!! We aren't like ecu and Virginia tech and other schools that have 2 colors.  If the kids like a Kelly green uniform with black numbers, could you please enlighten us on why you are so against it?!?! Please list your reasons for being so against putting some black in the uniforms- and please refrain from saying black is not one if our school colors.  Black isn't even a color, being used as an accent isn't going to change anything, and how can you not think those look damn good?  Makes the Kelly green "Pop" so much more!!

  • Because, despite your objections otherwise, Marshall's colors are GREEN AND WHITE. Look it up. It says Green and White. Nowhere does it say black. Now black may be a trim color (like to outline a number) but no way in hell it should be a main color. The school colors are GREEN and WHITE. Not just GREEN but GREEN and WHITE.
And we are like other schools that have two colors. Like I said, look it up.
Here are the words to Sons of Marshall:

We are the sons of Marshall
Sons of the great John Marshall
Year after year we go to Marshall U.
Cheering for our team and gaining knowledge, too
    Proudly we wear our colors
    Love and loyalty we share
    Sure from far and near
    You'll always hear
    The wearing of the green
For it's the GREEN and WHITE of Marshall U.

    http://www.marshall.edu/logo/StyleGuideManual.pdf

Check out the link.  Looked it up.  Page 8, page 15, and page 17.
To say that black is not a primary color, and is to only to be used as a trim color around the logo seems weird.  I would think if that is the intention, then white would be listed second in front of the other colors, however it isn't.  It is listed last, as if all colors are of equal importance.

So, as I asked, "Would all of you please enlighten us on why you are so against our jerseys having some black on them?  Please, refrain from the reason black is not one of our colors."  Tha is the only consistent reasoning I have ever heard, and when someone posts a link, all of the black haters crawl back into their holes... I feel that our school color is green- and we have several choices for trim colors- white obviously being the most commonly used at the time the school song was written.  As we all know- several other colors have been used throughout our history.  The university seems to look at each color as primary colors.  I don't see anything about primary and secondary colors.

  • Yeah, those red, white and blue flags look a little out dated too. We need to put some black on them, right?
The colors are Green and White. Period.

I have mixed feelings about the whole issue.. I'm a true die hard green and white fan personally. My take is this, once we start mixing up colors and differant uniforms when is the madness going to stop? Before you know it, we will start looking like  the Oregon ducks. It's better to stay with tradition and build on what we have. Think about this for a minute?, when people seen Aaron Dobson's great catch on video, they are going to remember not only the catch but the Herd's green and white uniforms....

  • We will never start looking like the Oregon Ducks. We don't have the founder of Nike providing them to us. I love the black uniform for a game every couple of seasons or for big time games.

This whole traditional uniform thing is funny. Have you seen how many different uniforms Marshall has had? Hell, look at Biggreenarms sig, he has all of our different helmets.

Things change. Kids like different things.

I agree.  We've had numerous uniforms over the years.  We're not like Alabama or Penn State.  I think some alternate uniforms would be great and could help with recruiting.  C'mon E-Man, don't be an old fart.  ;)

  • So if you think we need to stick with the "official school colors" should we ditch the kelley green because kelley is not our "official" school green?  That is dumb.

I'm talkin buffalo on helmet with an old design. IMO Va Techs old helmets are my favorites in the game. Black is so overdone now days for no reason. I hate OSU, but love how their pro combats always pay tribute to a team as well as the Bama pro combats that had houndstooth instead of white numbering.

Wow. Not even trying to call you out specifically gaylen, but I guess you didn't mind calling me out to very specifically let me know I was wrong.  I post the link, and pose the ? Again, and not only do you not answer any of the questions, but your comeback is simply- The colors are green and white?? Did you even read the link?  The colors are actually green, brown, brown, black, and then white.  I asked what you had against the kids getting what they want?
I wondered if you thought that's what Marshall football was all about?  I definately feel it should be more about them than us, and honestly if they sa the colors need to be puke green I'll support and continue to root for them.

Answering as you did, is what my post was referring to as crawling back in the hole.  If your just going to repeat yourself, without providing any supporting factual evidence, atleast put your feelings into it.  Something? If you can't defend it by answering why you feel that way, then maybe just admit that black wouldn't be that bad once a year... For a big game- then the other 11 games of the year let's wear green and white!!

  • I saw Omar's pic, but didn't see Jackson's comments --- but the players I've talked to, although they desparately WANT a uniform option similar to the one in Omar's pic, know nothing about a different bowl game uniform.  They said that someone in Brown's family just photoshopped that --- no truth to it as far as the players know.

Let me guess, not only do you dispute new uniforms with black incorporated, you also have blue hair and tell people to sit down at games... The only people who buck changes in uniforms and change in general are the old farts... It's no wonder the 20 something's in my gym told me they're WVU fans because they've been to Marshall games and they're boring because the fans don't get into the fun of the games like they do in Morgantown. They are right and it's costing us the next generation of fans. Uniform changes are fun... Black helmets and jerseys are popping up in stadiums all over the country. Young players love it and the younger generation of fans love it. Of course we can't do it because the old farts will complain. Honestly I know we dont have Phil Knight's money in our back pocket like Oregon, but do you remember Oregon getting top ten recruiting classes every year and being a top ten team when they played every game with a picture of Donald Duck on their helmets? No... They exploded when Nike and Knight stepped in and started making them look cool and appealing to this generation. Young kids dig this kind of stuff. The proof is in the puddin in Eugene, Oregon.

Young kids also dig winning more than anything. They want to be associated with a winner. We need to start back winning and the young kids will start digging us again.

Exactly! I'm in that young 20 generation and could care less about flashy colors. Bama fans are not clamoring to have change, or Auburn fans wanting to "break tradition" gimmicks are not needed. Just win!
