  • Yeah, those red, white and blue flags look a little out dated too. We need to put some black on them, right?
The colors are Green and White. Period.

Comparing our flag to football uniforms.  ::)  ::)  ::)

Hell, we should should have just stayed in Fairfield Stadium....why change and build a new stadium back in the 90's?  Don't like change much, huh?

  • Exactly! I'm in that young 20 generation and could care less about flashy colors. Bama fans are not clamoring to have change, or Auburn fans wanting to "break tradition" gimmicks are not needed. Just win!

...but you said you wanted a throwback uniform. That's a gimmick.

Also, Alabama did a Nike Pro Combat uniform last season.

I posted earlier about liking Bamas because it was a simple houndstooth pattern where the white is. Then the stripes added to pants. Bama fans were still iffy on them from what my friend told me down there. I also don't consider throwbacks as a breaking tradition gimmick, as you are celebrating the tradition and past.

  • Those who don't change and aren't open to change, often get surpassed by those who do and are. Adaptation, evolution. We as a school and a program must look into both to stay relevant. We don't play, the kids do and its time to realize our say doesn't matter as much as we would like it to. Kids want things to be exciting, lets be open to that possibility, whether you agree or not.

  • As I asked above. What is our traditional uniform? It has changed numerous times. It's not like people are asking for a complete, permanent overhaul of the uniform. I would imagine that every single person on this board would have a complete meltdown if that happened and rightfully so, but to have a  special uniform for a special occasion is a good idea. Look at the Maryland uniform. Like them or hate them, everyone in college football was talking about them the next day.

  • Black? Oh, God, I hope not!
Marshall's colors are GREEN AND WHITE. The only damned black, if any, should be the shoes.

    Black shoes...'nuff said.

  • Guys, it's only one game...One game with new uniforms....

We need to follow the trend and get some sharp modern uni's to keep up with what appeals to 19 year old recruits, bottomline....

I'd like to see at least 3 new sets of uni's next year, for recruiting appeal....

Plus, the Big Green should auction off the helmets afterwards....ala Va Tech

  • I think red is a real neat color. Maybe we could wear a red uniform instead of a black one. With a little green and white trim.
The damn colors are green and white. Not green, white and black no matter how spiffy you think black looks.
As a trim, OK. But as a primary look ... it ain't green or white.

By the way LSU, Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, USC ... when's the last time any of those programs showed up with a black uniform?
They are major programs. They don't do that.
But (why Alabama wore the Houndstooth other than Bear Bryant was God in that state, I'll never know) wannabe majors such as Oregon, wvu and the like will break out the black and some Marshall people will get giddy to put the Thundering Herd in a black abomination like those schools. Beats me why those folks want to emulate wannbes instead of real big timers.
But black is not, has not been, and should never be a primary color on any Marshall uniform.

Some change is good. Fairfield Stadium to the Joan was good.

Some change is bad. Look at "The Change" running the show now.

Some change is really stupid and unnecessary and should not be done ... like making black any more than a trim color on Marshall's uniforms.

  • Tennessee is a fairly prominent team on the big stage (although down right now) and they have had black jerseys for special occasions and they looked great. Georgia just unveiled black alternates in 08 and havent seen a problem with them.(yes i know its one of their colors but it wasnt used up until then). LSU's uniforms against Ark were anything but traditional for themneither were Ohio States pro combats. The University of Texas, Burnt Orange and White have had black uniforms. You can't say that some of the major programs havent had black uniforms or atleast have changed it up. No one is saying they have to be a permanent thing but changing it up is what the kids want and they go out there and lay it on the line for us fans and to represent this school so I think they should atleast be able to change it up a bit and if black is what they want then let em have it. And those black unis look sweet! ;D

Agreed...I will simply say this...recruits have been proven to go to a school simply due to their jersey or helmets...they fight hard for us and to not even consider the notion is selfish as a fan....people that are set in their ways are set in their ways, and trying to change that is like talking to a wall....pointless....(I am not pointing anyone out)....Alt uni's aren't gonna hurt anything....what will it do...get many fans and ALL players pumped, attract recruits, get us a bowl WIN!!??!!

on another note..............I am LOUD at games and get rather bothered that we are not LOUDER (some people mentioned this earlier)...many of our fans sit and not make a peep...the 12th man is us...the fan, and we need to step it up a LOT on gameday....I firmly know not all people can do that, but those that can need to MORE.....I get season tickets and sit with the students and get loud....it's a blast and I will continue to do it as my health permits....GO HERD!

  • Actually, the damn colors are green, brown, brown, black, and white.

Your hounding us over supporting a movement by a couple of our players, and you say that's not ok?? But your gonna tell me you'd like to see some red!!  I swear I think if the university of northwest rhode island came out with a penis on their helmet, you guys would be all for it??  Why on earth can't we try and emulate a real winner??

    Sarcasm Off.

Seriously though, sometimes professional teams completely change there colors is support of good causes or patriotic holidays.  Haven't seen it in college though.

This is totally out there, but I think it'd be pretty cool if the week of labor day, we get Nike to do a red white and blue pro combat uniform for us- then auction the uniforms off and donate the money to a wounded soldier type of charity.  Would be nice for us to be leaders, or be the first to do something cool like that, rather than doing things so late the coolness of it was a decade ago.
This is probably the only way we could ever get a pro combat uniform from Nike, and the publicity would be absolutely through the roof.  On top of that, what recruits parents wouldn't want their child to play for an institution with that level of class and innovation!!

Be a good time to invite some very important people to our campus, earn some potential new donors, perhaps even some national type politicians to get on the bus- then pressure the state to even it's 2 major universities up a little bit.  Worst fan base in the country and Best fan base in the country.

And wearing basic black could accomplish all that?

  • @herdthedrums LSU had their original whites on vs. Arkansas? Georgia retired their blacks after Nick Saban made a comment about taking Georgia to their funeral lol I was reading somewhere, I guess NCAA football game asked to include them and the AD said those won't be coming back or won't be back for awhile? Also I looked for Texas' because I know they wear them for scrimmages, but I don't think they have for games? OSUs 3 pro combats all payed tribute to championship teams which wore those colors/uniform types (minus that big stripe they included which annoys me)

One thing I found interesting is looking up Tennesses black jerseys. I am not sure fans liked them, but the fact 2 captains got their voice heard made it a big deal in the right direction. Plus it only cost $7,100 dollars for them??? We can't afford that? Really...

  • Maybe it was a different game but these were what I was refering to with LSU these are not their normal whites.  http://www.lsusports.net/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=5200&ATCLID=205270911, As for OSU they have elements ab them that pay tribute to the past but are no way completely traditional, they had a new style flair that appeals to young players. I see nothing wrong with the black uni's for special occasions and as for Tennessee still think those look great.Georgia's 2011 pro combats have black on them so its still there. Here is a picture of Texas's black combo which looks sweet.  http://alt.coxnewsweb.com/cnishared/tools/shared/mediahub/06/78/25/slideshow_725786_37.jpg
guess what? They don't use them every day! Why? Cause its a special occasion alternate uniform. Some of you act as if we are trying to change the school colors all together! Just something special for the kids who work their but of representing us.
New Uni's fire kids up and I see nothing wrong with that. Even just revamped pea pods would be cool to see.

2nd line, 2nd Section of writing, mentions specifically changing the colors for one game.  Also, discusses us being the first college team to do it.  Don't think we'd be the first college team to wear black.

Didn't make sence really, even if being sarcastic?
Black- looks sweet, appeals to most players and a lot of fans.
Red white blue- charity, show of appreciation.
Isn't veterans day sometime in football season? Perhaps tha'd work better than labor day.

You think they were sitting in the crowd of graduates screaming, "Green and White! Our Colors are GREEN and WHITE!!! PERIOD!!!" and when they got up to shake hands and get their diploma they grabbed the mic and were all like "This is not our traditional color!!!"....needless to say, I approve of your message P2M lol.

I was of this opinion last year too...but if we could sit down and have a round table discussion with our current players and players that are currently considering signing (in any sport) with MU, I think we'd all see that sooner than later, we are going to have to give into the "alternate uniform" trend or it's going to cost us recruits.

I know it sounds stupid, but stuff like this matters.

We need to get into the 21st Century on this issue.  If we could get a legit Nike Pro Combat alternate to wear once a year, it would simply make the issue a non-issue.  We don't have to wear them 8 times a year...

"When you take that field today, you've got to lay that heart on the line, men. From the souls of your feet, with every ounce of blood you've got in your body, lay it on the line until the final whistle blows. And if you do that, if you do that, we cannot lose."

Thank you for finally seeing it this way. Its not a permanent change, just a change. Variety as they say is the spice of life. The program doesn't revolve around us, but the kids involved in it now and in the future. Time to start caring about what THEY want.

Oooh, its for the children. That's so syrupy sweet if I already wasn't a diabetic it would probably give me sugar diabetes.
