We love Cinderella stories. That’s one of the nuisances of the NCAA Basketball Tournament that makes March Madness so extremely popular. Any given year a Davidson, George Mason or Valparaiso has the chance to make a magical run through tournament and play for a national title.
That has not been the case in college football where the BCS has kept underdogs like Boise State, Utah and TCU on the outside looking in when it comes to playing for national championship. Could that all change under the new four-team playoff system coming in 2014? Marshall Athletic Director Mike Hamrick thinks so.

“If you have people that are making these decisions and are doing it for the right reasons and have integrity then you will see one of these Cinderella’s make it to the final four,” believes Hamrick.

Cracking the top four won’t be easy and Hamrick admits it has been downright impossible under the current BCS format. The aforementioned teams, Boise State, TCU and Utah, were able to put together strong enough seasons to be invited to BCS games but not good enough to play for the title. However, Hamrick notes that under the new system no longer will schools be branded BCS and non-BCS schools which he considers an advantage for The Herd.
