Looks like we got a couple less than upstanding recruits off the field wise... We are really adding depth in the secondary, and now another WR.  Hopefully they can contribute immediately.

Didn't I say that Doc would be involved in the feeding frenzy?  Yes, I did.  He does NOT play where personnel are concerned.  And, if anyone can get good behavior out of these two, I would think it would be Doc.  Way to go!

The way I understand this is these guys were "removed" from the PSU team prior to any sanctions.  The only ones eligble to play immediately are those who chose to leave after the sanctions.  People who left or were booted from the team prior to the announcement of sanctions don't get to benefit from the ruling.  Bottom line is the have to sit out a year.

The way I understand it, they are eligible immediately pending academic review...if they were released by the University, they can transfer...if they weren't, they fall within the penalty guidelines.  At least that's the way that it was explained to me.

Glad to have them on board but it doesn't alleviate my concern on the O Line or Kicking game. O line will be the key to the success or failue of this team for 2012. jmo.

I would hope that Doc and MU did their homework to make sure that these guys would fall under the Penn State sanctions and are allowed to transfer to any school without having to sit out.  

Both were supposed to be starters at PS this season, so they should make an instant impact at Marshall.  Thomas in particular should help fortify the cornerback position.

I seriously doubt that Doc would bring these guys in if he didn't know for sure that they'd be able to contribute immediately.

Devon Smith was dubbed "fastest man in america" out of high school.  he's only 5-7 but he is every bit as fast as Kevin Grooms.

If the one guy is a senior with only one year of eligibility left, then i doubt he would transfer at this point if it meant sitting out for a year.

I don't really know anything BUT, I would think they were on the PSU roster last season and in spring so their status is based on that.  I mean, techically the PSU coach could allow them back on team tomorrow and they'd be ready to go for PSU.  So, their status as far as transfering is the same as it always has been - and is now subject to the ncaa ruling for PSU.

PSU apparently clocked Devon Smith at 4.23 his freshman year. Not really sure how much I believe that though.

According to bleacher report, Smith ran a 4.26 last year, THE fastest among all returning D1 players, tied with 4 others.  That's SICK speed against CUSA opposition.

Want to read something crazy, at a high school all star combine/game (Crab Bowl), he was hand timed at 4.19 for the forty. Again, I have my doubts on times like this being real, but who knows.

Thomas was going to start with Curtis Drake before both left. Penn State went from having a top 15 secondary, to not havin much since Amos has to go back to cb.

Smith passes the look test as far as speed goes. It will be interesting to see his role. I don't think we should be too worried if they can play.
