The rain should hold off until Saturday itself.
So far it's not looking good for the tailgaters... A rainy affair at times will get out those umbrellas and ponchos. That system swings through rather quickly though, so Sunday is appearing more and more salvageable. What's more, is that the temperatures will be dropping behind the front-- giving us a crack at the 70s right into next week. No complaining about that!

Right now calling for 70% chance of rain and thunderstorms but hopefully most of that will be out of the way by the time the game starts.

  • From what I understand, rain should be out of here by mid-afternoon.

My thoughts exactly...rain during the game doesn't bother me...I don't like it during tailgate time.  :)

Another scorcher on tap for today. Weakening high pressure in our region is still able to focus some heat our way, and with drier air in the mid-levels of the atmosphere this time around we're not going to get any help in the way of afternoon storms. Your football games will go off without a hitch tonight, and expect to stay dry.

Later on in the overnight, things will change though. A front is approaching from the west, and with it rain, rumbles, and breezes. A trip into fall is in the cards, and you will notice it on Saturday. Temperatures will be about 15 degrees cooler, and the ponchos will be out for tailgaters. The good news is that this is a progressively moving system, and the bulk of the showers are out of here by kickoff for the night games (this includes Marshall v. Western Carolina). The Ohio State game's noon start will put rain in the air for the first half at least.

    UPDATE
Looks like tailgating's going to be a wet one...  >:(

  • From Doug Harlow at WCHS....

Saturday will be wet in the morning...no doubt about it. In fact, rain should last past Noon in many spots but that front will blast through between 1-3 PM and once it does winds will shift into the west and dry us out. We should pick up around a half inch of rain on average as it moves through. I expect Huntington should see the last of the rain by 2 PM and Charleston should see things dry out by 3 PM. As a result, we should salvage at least part of the day and the Marshall game (and pre-game tailgating) look good. However, get ready for a change in seasons! When the rain is falling we'll be in the 60s for temperatures and even when we dry out we'll only make it back to about 74 degrees or so...almost 20 degrees cooler than today. Get used to this trend.

  • 1992 National Championship.  I have heard rumors that Mr. Harlow was involved in hanging a large banner from the Alpha Sig house that read somethign to the effect of: Can Penguins Swim in Buffalo %^&*?"  Just rumors though.  I guess that's a better rumor to have around the neck than "Gerbil."
