HUNTINGTON -- Gage Niemeyer went through the ultimate bag of mixed emotions as a football player last Saturday when Marshall University took the field against then-No. 11 West Virginia.

The sights, the sounds, the atmosphere -- and then, the silence.

Niemeyer looked on and saw fellow offensive tackle Garrett Scott clutching his leg following a run by Travon Van. Scott was on the ground in pain and the cart slowly made its way out to get him as training staff tended to his leg.

It isn't often that the crowd at Milan Puskar Stadium in Morgantown falls silent, but this was one of those times.

At that moment, the only sound Niemeyer could hear was his heartbeat.
