  • I promise you that my cousin's rot that I mentioned earlier was treated like a child. He got him as a pet when it was a pup and he was a single man, so it was his constant companion. One day it snapped for no reason and my cousin got torn up pretty bad. With that being said, I'll stick to my basset hounds. Loving, loyal, and lazy with a stubborn streak.
I hate to hear that about you cousin and hope they are OK. My nephew (14 months old at the time) got mauled by the family Lab (10 years old) of all dogs. Double whammy for my niece and her husband. Caleb hurt pretty bad and having to put longtime pet down too. I see everyones point trust me.

  • I did leave Dobies off the list. Great dogs too. Your story about the rescue hit home with me. My son rescued a beautiful Siberian Husky. She had been beaten so bad she is blind in one eye and food deprived also. When he would come home for the weekends Layla would stay with us and our dogs. I Herd a commotion in the kitchen and went to check it out. Layla had bitten my daughter and wife. When I stepped in she turned on  me and you can figure how that went. When she was on the floor in front of my I have never saw so much evil on a dogs face. My first thought was I am going to kill that dog right now. I stated thinking how she was raised and felt bad so I changed my mind and started loving  all over her. We have had her over two years now (over a year here ) and she is sooooo sweet. Matter of fact she is out front in this nasty weather with a neighbors dog that needs a new home and she will not leave his side.

Anyone want a sweet Golden Retriever that is almost two? If I didn't already have three large dogs he would live with us.

I have a 3 yrd old female Golden, she is by far the best dog I have ever owned. I tell my wife all the time that she is the best kid I have and my favorite girl in the house.  Great Dogs

  • I have been bitten several times before and I still believe that there are no bad dogs only bad owners.  My beloved copper nose Beagle, Yeager , bit me one time when he was asleep and I tried to move him.  I startled the little guy and he was protecting himself.  Also at the time I didn't know it but he was eat up with cancer and probably in pain.  He was put down right after We Are Marshall came out.  He was a great, great dog and I still miss him.  I have a tri-color beagle now named McQueen after the Great Escape artist Steve McQueen and a  little rescue dog of Heinz 57 variety that looks somewhat like a small Dober.  She is named Ali after Ali McGraw.  She is just happy to be alive.

Thinking about children getting bitten scares me to death. my cousin is fine. That happened back in the early 90's.

As far as rescues go, my best buddy basset hound had cancer and I had to have him put down back in September. We thought about not getting another dog, but the house seemed too empty. We decided if we were gonna get another we were going to rescue. We applied to every basset rescue on the east coast and looked at their websites daily. We were willing to travel if we found the right one. Nothing stuck out to us. My wife checks little victories website about twice a week and has for some time, even when we weren't looking for a dog. She would check it just to see if they needed supplies, food, etc. She had never once seen a basset hound on there. We have been donating to them for years. About 2 weeks ago, we had just got done looking at all of the available rescue bassets all up and down the east coast. Nothing. My wife said that if it was meant for us to have another dog, the dog we lost would send us one. The next day I get a phone call from her at work. She said he didn't want us to get a dog, he wanted us to get TWO dogs. The first two dogs listed on the little victories site were two full blood bassets. One pup less than a year old and a seven year old senior. Needless to say, we felt that our buddy was sending them to us, and they live with us now. It was definitely meant to be. There was never any nervous panting or pacing, they felt right at home from the moment I got them out of the car and brought them in the house. They didn't even sniff around trying to figure out where they were, they just knew they were home.

I would love to keep Marley but I just can`t.  Alot of dog people here and I am hoping someone will adopt him and give him a good home.

  • I rescued a 3 month old pit 5 years ago.  His mother and father were both fighters but if you know anything about dogs that doesn't mean their offspring will be.  I've had ZERO problems with him.  He's been around children his entire life and the only injury he's caused was when he and I hit heads one time and it gave me a black eye, which was my fault.  I have a 13 month old and have no fear of leaving them together.  Now I'm not going to let her pull on his ears or poke him in the eye because that would piss me off enough to react to the person that was doing it to me.  Pit's get a bad name because there are ignorent people out there that don't know how to handle them.  I've alwasy introducted him to people so he would get use to them and NEVER caged or tied him up to get him away from the public.  I also have an australian shephard and I am more scared of her biting my daughter than my pit.
