Marshall University football players were struggling to find words to describe what last Saturday's 54-17 loss to UCF felt like once they came to grips with the defeat.

They could have been selfish and been sulking for themselves because a shot at the Conference USA East Division crown was lost.

Instead, the players were more focused on the fans that left wet and dejected following the loss.

"The fan base here is behind us so much and we don't ever want to let them down," Marshall offensive guard John Bruhin said. "Putting on a bad performance like that hit us at the heart. We love the fans and we've got to get back to winning here."

  • So Tim Billings is just a defensive line coach at Memphis.....how does D-coordinator at Marshall sound.  Worked before, it can work again.

  • Not picking on Tommy per se but this is one thing I am tired of in sports:

"I know they hurt because we haven't gotten them a great win yet," Marshall wide receiver Tommy Shuler said. "I went on my social networks and asked to come out and support us against Memphis and I promise we won't lose for them again."

Athletes are quick to offer "guaranteed wins" with no consequences.  I'd once like to see a guy who guarantees a win say if we don't win, I'm retiring/quitting and will never play again.  Put something behind your words.
Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions.  Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.  Mark Twain

He would be an upgrade to Rip, but who wouldn't be? That said he was the DC 1 year here, and me, you, or a trained monkey could've led that D, they were just unbelievable. Since he left here, he's been a failed head coach, receivers coach, and secondary coach. I just think there are a lot better options for us out there when we move on from coach Rip this offseason.
