  • Hostess is closing plants that will effect Twinkies and other brand names, after the company couldn't agree on consessions with their union. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm hoping someone will buy Hostess and continue to sell Twinkies.. I'm going to go and stock up for as long as possible on Twinkies..

I think I read somewhere that Twinkies keep forever. So, stock up.

  • Someone will buy the rights to the name/recipe out of the bankruptcy proceeding.  This is far more about the extinction of the union contracts than the extinction of Twinkies.  (And that's a good thing in my book - you can't pay a man $50/hour to make twinkies and last very long).  Look for Twinkies to be made in China and shipped to the US.  Just like most of the manufacturing, you can thank greedy unions for the loss of the jobs.  Go ahead and blast me with negative Karma now.

  • Trivia questions and using google is cheating....

What was the original flavor of the filling in a Twinkie and why did they quit using that flavor?

  • Am I the only one who has missed the heck out of Planters Cheez Balls the last 10 years? Nothing compares to them. No imitation cheese balls, no Cheetos, no cheese puffs.... They're just not the same cheesy goodness. Planters decided to discontinue them and focus more on their "healthy" nut combinations. I'd like to crush Mr. Peanut!

Planters Cheez Balls were the shiznit...nothing can ever compare to them but the closest one I've found are Utz.  They aren't the same but they aren't as terrible as all the others.

I found some decent ones at the halfway market in Teays Valley amongst all the bulk Amish stuff. I can't remember the brand name. Something like "Gourmet deli". They came in a bag. They were decent but definitely not like the ones that came in that sealed blue can.

I remember the night we bought our first VCR at Montgomery Ward when I was a little kid. That night we rented "The Money Pit" with Tom Hanks and "E.T." My sister and I watched both movies, pounded a can of Cheez Balls each, and washed them down with RC cola. I miss the fun days that were less stressful.

Seems like every junk food product I ever really "loved" got discontinued. Planters Cheez Balls, Crystal Pepsi, Ecto Cooler Hi-C, Bonkers candy, Holiday Spice Pepsi, now Twinkies. I'm ticked!

  • I used to love taking the empty cheez ball can when it was empty and putting the lid back on it then stomping on it to make a loud noise.....Now kids are going to have to do it with Pringle cans.....I trained a Samoyed dog I had with the cheez balls from planters.

Winner.  Lol.  And the reason they switched was the fact the Japanese controlled the islands where they got the bananas from during the first few years of the war.

I feel its more like greedy owners selling out the American worker and moving overseas to avoid taxes and pay sawmill wages to workers there without EPA restrictions.

  • I say it was more of the unions shooting themselves in the foot.  Look at the total employees, there are over 18,000 of them but only 5000 of them are in the union.  Rather or not if people in the USA want to admit it or not, but they are pricing their service and work right out of a job.  Too many people feel they are "entitled" to a raise year after year when in turn they are the first to bitch when the cost of something goes up.  This strike came back to bite them in the a$$ just like the one did at ACF years back that sent that company spiraling into the bygones of companies past.  Same deal with the aluminum plant in Ravenswood.  Unions have their goods and their bad, but greed does too.  For what the workers lose in a strike is seldom ever recovered by the employees before the grim reaper knocks on the door.  Just go and read about all the workers that had worked there at Hostess for years and were a year or two away from retirement and now are out in the cold and were not for the strike to start with.  My grandfather, father and uncles were all teamsters back in the day in the trucking business.  My dad used to say that Jimmy Hoffa and his crews would rob the pensions blind and then teamster brothers would get pissed if you didn't contribute to his legal fund.
My grandfather used to have the clout to where he was in the sit downs with Hoffa and his crews in Youngstown Ohio when they claimed they were negotiating with the union locals.  Some strikes are for money, better retirement, medical or different reason.  This Hostess strike appears to be over pay.....Sometimes a company calls your bluff.....

  • Damn...Look at the other stuff they make too:
    * Twinkies are just part of the Hostess snack food family. Other well-known treats from the company include Ding Dongs, Ho Hos, Suzy Q's, Sno Balls, Zingers and Drake's cakes.
