  • Got two laptops.  I want to be able to designate certain files and folders to sync over the wifi such that when I make any changes to one, it updates the other automatically.  Does Microsoft Skydrive do this?  I think I understand that Windows Live Mesh did it, but one of the laptops is upgraded to the never version so Mesh is no longer an option.  Dropbox, etc.?  Question is do they automatically sync/update or just hold files in the cloud that you can pull and update?

Hope I am making sense...Files/folders I want to sync in particular are:

    ACT! contact databases
    Outlook.pst - mail folders
    Documents folder and contents
    Bookmarks or Favorites

I have a buddy who runs a business from home and he absolutely loves dropbox.  It's nice because he can access files from his network at home on his smart phone when he's on the road.  You may want to look into that.

  • I second dropbox. I love it and use it constantly.

I'm not sure about IE, but Chrome and Firefox have the ability to sync bookmarks and settings to all computers.

  • I use Firefox...will look into that option for Bookmarks especially.

I know Dropbox is good for being able to retrieve stuff mobily (word?)...Question is, will it automatically sync two laptops?  Looking for the easy way out.

I don't know if it will sync two laptops or not.  Someone else will have to speak on that one.

  • It will sync any computer that you have dropbox installed on. For example. I have it on a desktop at home, my home laptop , both smart phones and ipad and any files that I put into my dropbox folder on any device such as music, documents, pictures, etc... syncs to all of them.

  • Sounds right...Just to clarify, you do not have to actively do anything, right?  For instance, make changes to a Word or Excel file on your desktop and it automatically updates those changes to the same file on your laptop?

I think Windows Skydrive does the same thing, but I have heard really good things about Dropbox.

  • As long as you modify the document that is inside the dropbox folder. Just updating a document that is on your desktop or documents directory doesn't do it. It is specific to what is in the dropbox folder.

  • Dropbox works exactly like this.... if you use my code we both get 250MB of additional storage:

And I'll offer to give you a hand setting it up.  :)

  • Appreciate it but am just about fully set up on SkyDrive instead...7G of storage rather than 5.  Same capabilities.
