  • So... Lately I've re-discovered how much I like listening to vinyl albums. Mainly due to the fact that most of the bands I'm into these days have discovered they can make money again by releasing their new stuff on vinyl in limited quantities. I'm having a blast collecting music again and have rediscovered a lost pleasure of browsing in record stores.

Anyone else collecting? Anyone have old vinyl sitting around tat you wanna part with?

  • I've been a collecting records since the sixties, and I'm still addicted to vinyl. Even when CDs took over, I still kept my vinyl record collection. I've paid quite a bit for a few original albums and 45s from the fifties.

Cue the needle maestro. . .

  • I knew you would chime in.

Unfortunately I sold off most of mine to buy cds years ago, now it's making me sick to go back and look at what I let go for cheap and how much it's going for now.

  • Still have most of mine.   Unfortunately some of them sound a little "too warm" if you know what I mean.   Late nights partying in
crowded dorm rooms were brutal on them.

3-4 years back I bought a new Sony turntable.   Sounds pretty good and it was only $70.   I think at that time Sony was about the
only one making them unless you were going the "mixing route" etc.   Those were in the $500+ range.

  • Big Green Arms hooked me up with a nice Technics. It's a great turntable and I love it.

It's given me a renewed passion for music again. My wallet is taking a pounding though.

  • I've got quite(several hundred) a few old vinyl albums. I'm like Spaldy though, some of them are victim of late night parties and poor handling.

  • I was in Parkersburg today for work and stopped by a record store. Walked out with these. I wanted so many more that we're there but at this point I fear divorce.

  • If anybody is looking for some vinyl, try visiting budget tapes and records in charleston.   Haven't been in there for a couple years but I'm sure they will have some in there.

  • I collect roots music such as rockabilly, R 'n' R, R&B, old country, blues, etc. It can get really expensive when you pay for original recordings. I've paid $75 dollars for a single rockabilly 45 and a 100 bucks for an original Gene Vincent album years ago, to name a few.

  • My brother had probably a 100 records from the 70's and early 80's, but my parents read somewhere about playing one of them backwards and it had a prayer to Satan....Needless to say they were in the landfill shortly after....

  • There's a vinyl expert they have frequently on one of the Cincinnati radio stations. Just heard him on the 55 KRC morning show a few weeks back as I was driving into work. He said 45s is where the high dollar value is, especially if they still contain the jacket. He mentioned one of the highest valued 45s was from some no name guy I had never heard of before from back in the 60s I think. I believe it had something to do with his 45s not supposed to have been released but several got into circulation some how.

I'm sure most of you have probably already seen some of these but here's several sites I thought might be good for this thread on pricing your vinyl.

  • www.discogs.com is my favorite.

    Thanks for the other links.

I'm currently wanting all of the Ozzy Era Black Sabbath albums. Rhino just re-released them on 180gm vinyl for a pretty good price, but I want the original pressings.

If anyone has any to part with let me know.

I'm on vacation the week of 12/17. If you can remind me I can get out what I have left and let you know. I don't even recall what I have. I parted with nearly everything decades ago. Same with CDs although I do have more CDs left than I do albums. I even have some of the 45 plastic adapters in a few colors.  ;D

Yeah, I'd be curious to see what you have hidden away. I owe you lots of beer for hooking me up with the turntable. I love that thing. Wouldn't trade it for the world.
