  • How did everybody do this year?  I got two in Mason County during gun season.  Didn't get to go with my bow or muzzleloader.

  • I haven't even gotten to eat any of mine yet.  It was too hot to bring them back to Beckley so I just had them processed up there.  I am picking them up this weekend when we run back up.  Can't wait to get some of that backstrap.

  • My buddy owns a farm in Southern Indiana.  It was being ravaged by deer and he was given permission to kill
at will on his farm.  I killed quite a few this summer.   Not very easy and not like when rut is going on.

In the grim category of government bureacracy, we were required to leave them where they dropped.
Could not even take any of the meat.   We only killed antlerless deer as he leases it out to
hunters during season and wanted bucks for them since that's what they wanted.

I remember thinking that only a bureacrat that answers to no one and has a job for life could come up
with a "solution" to a problem like this.
“This year will go down in history. For the first time a civilized nation has full gun registration. Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient and the world will follow our lead into the future.” —Adolf Hitler, 1935

Proposed 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution: "Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators and/or Representatives; and, Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators and/or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States."

Only Spaldy could turn a deer hunting thread into a political rant.  ;D

  • herd,

It bothered me a lot.   I don't like killing something and not using it.  I have no problem
killing a deer and field dressing it since you know it feeds the family.  However,  just killing
and wasting because some asshat 10 counties away determines that no one can gain from it really makes the blood boil.

Of course,  no chance for intput in the process.  The ruling elite don't mingle with the peasants.

  • Herd,

sorry,  lost some sleep over that this summer.  Always amazed that some people actually enjoy killing for the sake of doing it.  That's not hunting.   I should have caught the sarcasm.

greg,  the thought crossed our mind but in the current, "land of the free" the guy that gave the permit to my buddy advised him, in writing, that if he took any part of the killed animal it would be deemed poaching.  He would lose his license for life, his gun(s) and possibly his truck and his home would be seized.    of course,  this level of punishment is totally out of line with the crime.

it's how totalitarian regimes control the masses and take what they want.   most of us don't have the money and the ability to get legal help to fight this off so you end up capitulating.   drones, of course, will make us all safer!

  • Moonshiners have the same problem.  ;D

Speaking of hunting, a recent episode of "Moonshiners" showed a bootlegger shooting a wild pig in the sticks. (The tusks on those aniamls can kill dogs.) They dressed it at the moonshine site and said it's the best eatin' around. When you're making shine, it draws attention to go back and forth into town.

  • No doubt Spald.  Wish I could make a living representing people bullied by gov...and there are many.  But...gotta raise kids, so I represent inept and occasionally corrupt business interests.  Oh well.

When I "retire," I am going to amuse myself with pro bono harassment of the government.  Or maybe I will represent my fellow vets against the VA (perhaps the most disgusting govt agency outside the epa).

  • greg,

take the big case on!   my employer just heard that our large deductible progam ($2500) is not approved
for obamacare.   since he didn't give money to the fearless leader and we aren't union we didn't get an
exemption. our last renewal is 1/1/2013.

if he uses an "obamacare'" approved plan it would raise our healthcare to 40% of our salary on average (it's now 22%)

He advised us today we are going to the public exchange plan... which doesn't exist yet.  we are screwed but then again we are just private sector grunts.  we have a full year to find an obamacare approved pan.

I'm proudly wearing my CCCP hammer and sickle shirt.  If only I'd been smart enough to become a government worker I wouldn't have to worry about minor things like healthcare, pensions or raises.   you know, "those seperate but equal" healthcare, pensions and cost of living adjustments that a lot of people don't seem to have.

I wonder who's going to pay all the government workers pensions, healthcare and raises if we are all unemployed or working with no health insurance.   I guess they could just take the 401k money and apply that to the government workers.  that's a great idea.  Kind of like that social security money they stole back in the early 60"s.

I'd probably have vacation time so I could kill a deer or two.
