  • Actually, only 99% correct.  He couldn't play this year because he was unable to step off with explosiveness with his knee pain.  It would take two or three steps to hit top speed, rather than one.

  • Yeah I equate his fumble in the wvu game to "the fumble" in the 80s when Earnest Byner for the Browns fumbled the ball against the Broncos at the 2 yard line and cost them a trip to the super bowl. Would have never happened had we not took out our starter. Don't get why on such a crucial area of the field and potentialgame winner you would put in an unproven cold back. It cost US the only win against wvu.

  • i will never forget...... with us getting ready to put WVU away on the 1 yard line.  Right before he fumbled the guy next to me says... "who the f@$% is Tron Martinez and why is he in the backfield."  Literally fumbles 5 seconds away.  Thanks for the memories Tron!

Then the guy next to you wasn't paying very much attention, because just the play or two before it was Tron that had a hell of a run to pickup a hard fought first down that should have sealed the game.

He was in the game because he runs hard and just picked up that first down ... He was also on the field because he was our only RB that had not fumbled a single time all spring and staff had the most confidence in him to not put the ball on the ground ... Just goes to show that you never know ... Can be a cruel game sometimes.

after the failed experiment of moving TEM to LB, they should have moved him back to RB, then they would have had some depth, and put someone in that had real experience, they should have know after the spring he wasnt a LB.

I disagree ... Whether they moved TEM back to RB or not is irrelevant to me ... Depth had nothing to do with it, it's not like Tron was worn out he just made a mistake ... No way no how do I ever have TEM on the field instead of Tron ... Tron is a much much better RB.

IMHO, experience can be vastly overated and certains postions ... It's can help a RB when it comes to pass protection/ blitz pickup, but when it comes to just running the ball you either can or you can't.

That is like saying that you would want and mediocre upperclassman on the field on the field over Grooms/ Butler/ Watson due to experience ... And in TEM's case his experience was limited at best.

it's not like saying that at all, at the time Tron had very little experience, and no real currancy in the program.  the starter needed a rest or whatever,& it was at the point in the game where, no yards and hanging on to the ball, was more important, than a 50 yd run.  TEM had played  some, knew the situation, knew how important beating WVU was, so he would know what was important in that situation, and that was hanging on to the ball!!!  We dont fumble, we win, period.

We just disagree ... I don't like playing hypotheticals & TEM didn't have much experience either ... We don't know if TEM or anyone else for that matter would have or wouldn't have fumbled ... I just can't believe we are talking about TEM being in the game because he was a little older ...You don't need to be a 5th year senior to know that fumbling in that situation or any situation for that matter is a bad thing ... Fumbles happen to the best of them ... Bradshaw had an issue here and when he first got in the league with putting the ball on the ground ... I still wanted him carrying the ball ... But, Tron didn't have a fumbling problem which is why he was in the game ... He was the ONLY RB we had that did not fumble all spring ... $h!t happens in this game ... In the Browns vs. Broncos game it was a sure thing with Byner ... He was a very sure runner for whom it was an extreme rarity to put the ball down ... You never know.

  • the man has sacrificed a HUGE thing for this program.
Hell, I forgave the fumble totally...WAY more than that fumble went wrong with that quarter. I do know he ruled the Tidewater area prep scene.....best of luck

  • Hell, I wish he hadn't made the first down before that. We would have likely kicked the field goal and been done.

Wow... I told my wife the exact same thing right after that fumble.
